Priyanka Chopra 'is so incredibly good' and 'badass' says Citadel: Diana star Matilda De Angelis; ‘I wanted to be at her level’

As a devoted fan who has followed Matilda De Angelis‘ career since her breakout role, I must say that her latest revelation about Priyanka Chopra Jonas left me utterly thrilled! Her determination to reach the level of the Desi Girl and her hard work to fill the gaps is truly inspiring. It’s not every day you see an actress openly admitting she wants to be like another, and it just goes to show how much Priyanka has influenced the industry.

In September 2024, the premiere of Raj-DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, took place in London. At this event, the main actresses from the series – Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Citadel), Samantha (Citadel: Honey Bunny), and Matilda De Angelis (Citadel: Diana) – struck a photo that quickly became popular online. In a recent conversation, Matilda shared that she found Priyanka to be both incredibly talented and badass, and aspired to reach her level.

In a conversation with News18, Matilda shared that upon seeing Priyanka in Citadel for the first time, she felt deeply inspired. Consequently, she worked tirelessly to ensure she could live up to the high standards set by “The Desi Girl.” When they both attended the premiere in London, she recalled thinking, “She’s amazing! I want to be at her level,” and then put in immense effort to bridge any gaps and meet those expectations through rigorous training.

For those not in the know, the Raj-DK series is an Indian version of the Russo Brothers’ popular spy universe franchise. On the other hand, Matilda’s Citadel: Diana, scheduled for release on Prime Video on October 10, is the Italian spinoff.

Matilda shared her experience of meeting Priyanka and Samantha in London, expressing her admiration for both. She mentioned that she had met them about a year and a half earlier and noted that every time she sees them, it feels as if they have a deep connection. Matilda added that she feels very comfortable in their presence and enjoyed the opportunity to see them again.

Matilda pointed out that the picture taken at the movie premiere, featuring the three of them, drew a lot of interest, emphasizing the influential women shaping the world of Citadel. She shared her desire to meet them once more, explaining that their discussion mainly centered around Citadel and their enthusiasm for it.

Eagerly anticipating a deeper connection, I’m excited about the prospect of sharing a meal with those two captivating actresses, following our earlier, albeit short, encounter.

Earlier, the Russo Brothers revealed that Citadel is inspired by the James Bond series. This movie franchise focuses on showcasing powerful female characters in leading positions. Matilda praised the creators for their dedication to this approach, stressing that it wasn’t just a move to make a statement, but a genuine effort to create well-rounded roles.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but echo her sentiments: While Citadel might appear as our counterpart to James Bond, the essence lies in the tale itself. To underscore this point, Matilda reminds us that integrating robust female characters holds significance only when they are integral to the narrative. Otherwise, it risks devolving into fleeting trend or a mere gimmick.

Conversely, Chopra is ready to take on her character Nadia once more and has already started filming for Citadel Season 2 alongside Richard Madden. In the meantime, the Indian adaptation of Citadel, titled Citadel: Honey Bunny, is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video on November 7, 2024. This series stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the main characters.
