Psylocke’s Abilities in Marvel Rivals Explained

Psylocke’s Abilities in Marvel Rivals Explained

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia when I see the latest addition to the roster of Marvel Rivals – none other than Psylocke, the telepathic ninja from the X-Men universe. Her abilities seem like a delightful blend of Genji and Sombra from Overwatch, two characters I’ve spent countless hours mastering in my quest for gaming glory.

Despite Marvel Rivals by NetEase not being released yet, the developers are still unveiling new characters that will join the game, sparking enthusiasm among fans as they eagerly anticipate the expanding character list.

Previously, we’ve seen the character known as Betsy Braddock, also called Psylocke in the X-Men universe. She possesses an assortment of unique abilities that reflect her ninja background and psychic prowess. In essence, she embodies a blend of Genji and Sombra from Overwatch.

Psylocke’s Main Abilities

Psylocke’s primary skills are designed to complement her ninja-themed character, incorporating a touch of psychic powers for her weapons. Her abilities enable swift movement across the battlefield, delivering sudden high damage (similar to Genji’s dash), and she can also become invisible and maneuver stealthily among opponents, much like Sombra in stealth mode.

Her key allies consist of Magik and Black Panther, enabling her to perform a skill analogous to Tracer’s Blink (Recall) ability in Overwatch.

Psylocke’s Abilities in Marvel Rivals Explained

Here’s a breakdown of what she can do

Psylocke’s Primary Attack: Psi-charged Crossbow Shot – This is Psylocke’s primary attack where she discharges psionic bolts from her crossbow, inflicting damage on opponents. Using this crossbow also hastens the recharge of her other abilities.

Psychic Shurikens (Right Mouse Click) – These are Psylocke’s secondary attack. With this ability, she can launch a series of shurikens that stick to enemies; one distinctive feature of this weapon is it provides additional health. Pressing the button again retrieves the shurikens.

In the vein of Sombra’s hidden form, engaging Psychic Stealth gives Psy the ability to become undetectable and increases her speed, enabling swifter movements.

Psychic Slice Dash (Keybind: Left Shift) – This ability mimics Genji’s dash, enabling Psylocke to cut through adversaries as she dashes by using her psychic blades.

Psy’s Special Move: Butterfly Dance – In this ability, Psylocke creates a large area surrounded by her psychic energy. Any character caught within this zone is swiftly attacked with her psionic katana. Notably, players can adjust the size and position of the energy field while it’s active, but it will move at a slow pace.

As a gamer, I find myself with an incredible power at my disposal – the Psionic Disc Team-Up Ability, reminiscent of Tracer’s Recall. With Magik on the battlefield, both Psylocke and Black Panther can tap into Limbo, rewinding our position to a spot we occupied just a few seconds ago. This ability not only provides us with an escape route when needed but also boosts our health for added survivability!

Additional Notes on Psylocke

A majority of these notes pertain to Psy’s secondary skill, known as Wing Shurikens. Unlike traditional shurikens, these ones stick into enemies first, but upon retraction, they strike every adversary in their return path. The health bonus acquired is influenced by the number of shurikens that successfully hit an enemy.

When performing the dash, Psylocke also retracts any secondary fire she had previously thrown out.

In a game that’s continuously updated, there might be adjustments to Psylocke once she’s released, but for now, she seems well-balanced. Currently, she can collaborate with X-Man Magik, and it’s possible that she could also have an ability if Wolverine is on her team (provided he gets announced).

Marvel Rivals will launch on Dec. 6 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
