Quentin Tarantino is pivoting away from filmmaking for his next project.
Quentin Tarantino engaged in an intimate conversation with renowned journalist, TV host, and movie aficionado Elvis Mitchell, held at his Main Street suite sponsored by Darling & Co. The venue, brimming with festival attendees, filmmakers, and media personnel, eagerly listened to Tarantino’s words during the spirited discussion. As curiosity swirled about his future plans, he eagerly addressed the anticipation.
The person wearing a beanie, who is believed to be Tarantino, has shared some recent footage where he mentions, ‘If you’re curious about what I’m up to at this moment,’. He’s currently working on writing a play and hints that it might be his next project.”
Or more informally:
“The guy in the beanie (Tarantino), in some recent clips, says, ‘Hey, if you’re wondering what I’m doing,’. Turns out he’s writing a play and seems pretty sure it’ll be his next big thing.
However, he didn’t completely dismiss the idea of his work being transformed into a feature film. He said, “If it fails miserably, I likely won’t make a movie out of it. But if it becomes a massive success? It could very well be my final film.
Last year, many news outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter, announced that Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, “The Film Critic,” was rumored to be his final movie, following the release of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
According to recent reports, the unexpected announcement took everyone by surprise since the project was anticipated to capture at least one scene in 2024, followed by full-scale production starting early in 2025. This ambitious venture, slated to star A-list actor Brad Pitt, would have represented their third collaboration with director Tarantino.
In his conversation at the Mitchell event, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino shared the reason he’s been reluctant to return to directing – his two young children. This detail was initially reported by Variety. “I have no immediate plans to start production,” he said. “Next month my son will turn 5, and I have a 2.5-year-old daughter. In America, when I’m not writing, I call myself ‘abba,’ which means father in Israel.” Mitchell also conducted an interview this festival season with Bill Murray, who participated in a thoughtful, career-spanning discussion as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
He expressed that he plans to wait until his son turns six before embarking on any significant projects. He finds the concept of starting a journey when the children are too young to comprehend it unappealing. Instead, he wants to postpone whatever film he takes up until his son is at least six. By doing so, his son will be aware of what’s happening, and they can share this experience as a lasting memory. This decision also holds significance for his dedicated fans who will look forward to the outcome.
