The long-awaited masterpiece “Ramayana” directed by Nitesh Tiwari has made its initial significant stride forward. The official certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for the title announcement video of the film, produced by Namit Malhotra, has been granted. The Mumbai Regional Office has given it a ‘U’ certificate and the certified runtime is 2 minutes and 36 seconds. This was cleared on May 5, 2025. Namit Malhotra himself, who is also the Founder and Global CEO of Prime Focus Studios, is the applicant and producer listed.
This certification signifies that the production team is preparing to launch their promotional campaign for this epic project which has already generated immense anticipation among viewers. Although the video hasn’t been publicly released yet, this development represents a significant step towards making Ramayana one of the biggest cinematic spectacles ever attempted in Indian cinema.
“Ramayana”, based on the ancient Indian epic, is being envisioned as a grand, visually rich reinterpretation. The film will be divided into two parts and is expected to hit theaters during Diwali 2026 for Part 1 and Diwali 2027 for Part 2. Namit Malhotra expressed his joy during the official announcement in November 2024, stating that the journey to bring Ramayana to the big screen began more than a decade ago. He emphasized their commitment to creating an “authentic, sacred, and visually stunning” version of this cultural treasure.
While the cast has not been officially confirmed by the production house, reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor will portray Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi will essay the role of Sita, and KGF star Yash will play the complex character of Ravana. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Yash himself confirmed his involvement and expressed excitement about playing one of the “most fascinating” roles.
The CBFC certification of the Ramayana title announcement suggests that a first visual glimpse of the film could be released soon, potentially giving fans an early peek at what’s to come.
