The movie “Ramayana,” featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, is a highly anticipated Bollywood production. Already, there’s a lot of anticipation for this epic film, and its creators are working tirelessly to ensure it appeals to the masses. Notably, producer Namit Malhotra has pledged that they aim to adapt the film in local languages to preserve the authenticity of the characters.
At WAVES Summit 2025, Namit Malhotra, producer of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana project, discussed their epic undertaking during his speech. He emphasized that the narrative they plan to share is an Indian tale meant for global consumption. He expressed that through technology, they aim to elevate the authenticity of our culture, characters, and tales.
Malhotra outlined their approach as follows: “We aim to create a sense of familiarity by tailoring the film for various global audiences. Technologically, we’re working hard to ensure that the movie will play with synchronized dialogue in the native language without subtitles or dubbing, such as English in English-speaking regions, Spanish in Spain, and Japanese in Japan.
The producer confidently stated that the vision can be realized due to the advanced technology. He pledged to work diligently to preserve the genuine qualities of the film characters as they tell their stories. However, he emphasized the importance of using these films in a manner that ensures the global audience doesn’t find the expression intimidating or confrontational.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I can’t help but notice that American movies seem to be the global sensation, while Spanish, Japanese, and many other fantastic films often go unnoticed. However, I firmly believe that outstanding content transcends language barriers. It might pose a significant challenge, but I stand firm in my conviction that it will ultimately prevail.
However, he contends that reaching a wide audience can be difficult, pointing out that only a small number of movies from the Southern region tend to resonate with viewers in the Northern area, and the same goes for movies from the North being well-received in the South.
He claims that it’s tough to connect with a broad audience, observing that only a handful of films produced in the South manage to find success in the North, and similarly, Northern films struggle to gain traction in the Southern region.
Under the guidance of director Nitesh Tiwari, the epic tale of Ramayana is brought to life with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as his wife Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol in the role of Lord Hanuman. The first two installments of Ramayana are planned for release on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 respectively.
