In 2023, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga teamed up with actor Ranbir Kapoor for their movie, “Animal.” Despite generating polarized opinions, the film proved to be a massive hit at the box office. Several scenes in the movie sparked lively debates among viewers. One of these controversial discussions revolved around Kapoor’s nude walk sequence, which Vanga recently revealed was made simple due to Kapoor’s cooperative and supportive attitude during filming.
In a recent chat with Komal Nahta, Sandeep Reddy Vanga acknowledged that the success of “Animal” was largely due to the shared understanding between him and Ranbir Kapoor. He highlighted how the actor trusted in Vanga’s conviction and when asked if they were on the right path, Kapoor would motivate him by urging him to follow his instincts without any hesitation.
The director of Kabir Singh shared an example from the film Animal to illustrate his point. Originally, they planned to use prosthetics on the character’s thighs and lower body, which worked well during a test shoot. However, when filming began, it didn’t appear as appealing as expected.
Originally, we intended to film the scene with a sharp focus and utilize props to conceal his lower body area while walking. But since the prosthetics malfunctioned, I simply stated that we would capture the scene in an unfocused manner instead.
The director pointed out that having to adjust the scene after investing numerous hours in preparing the props and setting up could be frustrating for an actor. Yet, the actor from Love & War expressed his acceptance towards filming it another way.
According to Vanga, he responded with an immediate “okay” during our brief chat, without any further debate. In the span of ten minutes, I suggested making the scene blurry to enhance its eerie and intriguing feel, and it seemed he was already on board with the idea.
The filmmaker emphasized again that a strong connection between actor and director really eases the process. In his words, whatever the outcome might be, he believes that when there’s mutual understanding, making the film becomes enjoyable, and it ultimately comes down to having confidence in each other.
Following the initial release, enthusiasts can’t wait for the upcoming sequel to the movie known as “Animal Park.
