Randy Meeks Must Return in Scream 7 for an Epic Legacy Reunion!

In the upcoming movie “Scream 7”, there lies an ideal chance for the reintroduction of a character who has been absent from the franchise for over two and a half decades. This horror film franchise began with its eponymous 1996 release, written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven. The original movie followed characters Billy Loomis (played by Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), who concocted their own slasher persona – Ghostface (voiced by Roger L. Jackson) – to carry out a series of murders, with the primary aim being to eliminate Billy’s girlfriend, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).

As a die-hard fan, it was thrilling for me when the franchise was reborn with the 2022 legacy sequel and its subsequent 2023 installment. In this chilling continuation, the new Ghostface targeted descendants of the original characters, such as Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), her half-sister Tara (Jenna Ortega), and Randy Meeks’ (Jamie Kennedy) twin niece and nephew Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding). However, the Carpenters won’t be returning for Scream 7, but the twins will join forces once more with Sidney, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and even characters who were presumed dead, including Stu, Gale’s love interest Dewey Riley (David Arquette), and Scream 3‘s Ghostface Roman Bridger (Scott Foley).

Randy Has To Return In Scream 7

The Twins’ Appearance Is Probably Linked To His Character

Up until now, it appears that “Scream 7” aims to pay the most homage to the foundational spirit of the initial three “Scream” films. Given this, it seems inappropriate not to involve Randy Meeks somehow. This character played a pivotal role in the original trilogy, serving as a guide to the horror genre’s rules for his fellow survivors. He even made an appearance via a pre-recorded videotape in “Scream 3,” posthumously, following his death in “Scream 2.” The significance of his return is further emphasized by the comments from the screenwriter of the upcoming movie, Guy Busick, during an interview with ComicBook.

It seemed fitting, in an authentic manner, for the Meeks-Martin twins to be included in this film. Without revealing too much, they are connected to Sidney through Gale. Gale serves as a crucial link in both films 5 and 6, and she’s part of this production too. Given that New York played a significant role in the storyline, it’s natural that Gale forged bonds with the four characters. There is a specific reason why these two characters find themselves in this town where the main events unfold.

If Ghostface’s latest rampage is unique in its connection to the twins compared to the Carpenter sisters, it might imply that there’s a connection to Randy Meeks, the brother of their grandmother Martha Meeks (Heather Matarazzo). It’s uncertain if Stu, Roman, and Dewey will appear as hallucinations, like Billy did in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI, or if their deaths will be rewritten. However, Randy could be an ideal character to appear as a hallucination for Chad and Mindy, given the possibility that the film might focus on them dealing with their family history directly.

Randy’s Return Would Bring The Legacy Cast Full Circle

He’s The Only Major Legacy Character Who Has Been Left Behind

In Scream 7, having Randy appear alongside other recurring characters serves as a fitting conclusion to the main storyline of the original characters. This could mark the end of a new trilogy, as most significant characters from the franchise have either been confirmed or are expected to appear in Scream VI and its precursor from 2022, including Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton) and Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere from Scream 4). As the series progresses, it seems that it will increasingly focus on new characters, making Randy’s return in this film potentially his last opportunity.

Apart from being ideally suited for Randy to make an appearance in Scream 7 due to the twins’ comeback and the conclusive nature of the film, it would complete the narrative circle for the original legacy characters by providing them all a last opportunity to share the screen together after a gap of nearly three decades. The last time we saw Randy, Gale, Dewey, and Sidney together on screen was in Scream 3, released in 2000. Thus, a reunion in the 2026 sequel (even if some characters are technically deceased) would be a significant event.
