Range Media Gets Into the Culinary and Celebrity Chef Business, Acquires FRESH MGMT (Exclusive)

As a longtime fan and follower of the ever-evolving world of entertainment and culinary arts, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by this recent news! Range Media Partners, with their knack for spotting trends and capitalizing on opportunities, is diving headfirst into the celebrity chef scene. The acquisition of FRESH MGMT and the launch of Range Culinary is a testament to their forward-thinking approach.

Range Media Partners wants a piece of the celebrity chef pie.

The management company is venturing into the food industry by purchasing Fresh Management and establishing a freshly-minted division named Range Culinary.

ANDREW CHASON and DANIELLE KIM established FRESH MGMT, having formerly managed the gastronomic sector at CAA. Their roster encompasses chef and philanthropist José Andrés, as well as the host of Top Chef, Kristen Kish.

In recent times, culinary experts and trendsetters in food and beverage have gained significant popularity in the entertainment industry. Unscripted programs centered around these topics remain a sought-after format for streaming platforms and television networks, while classic cooking shows also maintain their appeal.

Furthermore, well-known chefs are sought after in various sectors beyond cooking, such as licensing agreements, live performances, product endorsements, and social media content. By leveraging the diverse divisions of Range Culinary, like Range Digital (which manages a pool of creators and influencers), Range Studios (responsible for shows on Max and Prime Video), and Range Access (specializing in hospitality and other business endeavors), they can aid their clients in broadening their professional horizons.

Speaking for everyone at Range, we hold Andrew and Danielle in high regard, recognized as pioneers in culinary entertainment. As leaders in the industry, their emphasis on food and cultural integration mirrors our own strategy in creating a diverse, comprehensive service for our clients to advance their careers within the broader culture. Furthermore, our joint objective is to continuously innovate and explore new possibilities for our clients.

Chasen and Kim expressed their enthusiasm about joining forces with Range, stating that they value the quality of people there. They were particularly drawn to Range’s distinctive focus on quality over quantity, shared resources, collaborative atmosphere, and sophisticated taste, which they believe creates an ideal environment for their team and clients.

Range employs Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) as a means for growth. Recently, it took over a management company to broaden its sports sector.

2022 saw the company securing funds from a series of investments, with A+E Networks spearheading one of these rounds. Earlier this year, another round was completed that featured participation from John Malone’s Liberty Global, TPG founder David Bonderman’s Wildcat Capital, and the family entertainment company Playground Productions.

I’m right smack dab in the middle of some tough legal proceedings with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), you see. They claim my gaming company, Range, which was started by ex-CAA employees, has broken the Talent Agencies Act. Quite a pickle, if you ask me!
