If you imagine blending the toughness of Yellowstone with the tender romance found in Virgin River, you might get something similar to a new Western series that just debuted on Netflix called Ransom Canyon. This fresh series introduces an engaging TV universe set in a contemporary Texas town filled with hardened ranchers, ambitious cowboys, and potential threats from the wealthy. Notably, there’s also a stranger who arrives in the titular town, harboring his own hidden motives because every Western drama seems to require a drifter. The role of this outlaw is played by Jack Schumacher, an up-and-coming actor known for SWAT, who recently spoke with MovieWeb about his brand new Netflix series created by April Blair and the exciting possibilities it holds beyond its initial 10 episodes.
“It was shared by Schumacher on MovieWeb that a writer’s room has been established for Season 2, which usually indicates promising news. I’m constantly pressing April and other writers for any details they can provide me with. Sometimes, they offer tidbits of information. However, I believe they also have valid reasons to keep quiet. They say things like ‘No, because then you’ll become too attached to this concept.’ They explain that these ideas evolve… Everything being developed now is still very new. So, yes, I’m quite eager for the possibility of a Season 2.”
Co-Starring With James Brolin in ‘Ransom Canyon’
In the highly-praised series Ransom Canyon, James Brolin, known for his role in the original Westworld, appears alongside Schumacher as a local character with intriguing links to Yancy. To uncover these captivating plot twists, viewers must continue watching beyond the pilot episode. According to Schumacher, “James is versatile and always makes thoughtful choices. So I was consistently amazed by him.
At times, when I watch myself on screen during reaction shots, I’m surprised to find myself exclaiming, ‘Oh!’ as if I were truly experiencing that moment. It’s a strange yet fascinating experience because what he does aligns perfectly with my genuine reactions. This ensemble is simply remarkable.
In the series, Schumacher also has engaging moments alongside Irish actor Eoin Macken (from ‘La Brea’). Macken portrays a resident in town who frequently clashes with the main character Staten (played by Josh Duhamel). He attempts to assert control over the land using various tactics. Schumacher praises Macken, stating, “He’s such a joy to watch act, and he manages to balance being expressive and physical while keeping it realistic.” It can be challenging for actors to maintain an authentic performance in this way, as they may overdo it or become too reserved. However, Macken does this exceptionally well… I found working with him a pleasure, and I genuinely enjoy spending time with him.
