Rapper-singer Badshah faces legal trouble over Baawla song; case filed for alleged non-payment of dues

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I find it disheartening when talented individuals like Badshah, known for his chart-topping hits and vibrant persona, find themselves entangled in legal disputes. It seems that, despite his success, he might be struggling to manage the financial obligations that come with such fame.

Music artist Badshah, known for hits like “Jugnu” and “Saturday Saturday,” is currently dealing with a lawsuit from a media company because of unpaid fees that were part of a legal agreement. The company claims that they provided all necessary services for the production and promotion of his song “Baawla,” but Badshah has allegedly not paid those who worked on the project’s creation and advertising.

As reported by IANS, this ongoing case, identified in the Karnal District Court under CNR Number HRKR010130502024 and Case Number ARB 47/2024, involves allegations that the defendants were served with several payment reminders prior to initiating legal proceedings.

It’s claimed that Badshah repeatedly promised action but never delivered, consistently pushing back due dates for payment without actually fulfilling his obligations.

Track titled “Baawla,” performed by artists Badshah and Amit Uchana, has seen significant success, racking up more than 151 million views on YouTube since it was posted on Badshah’s personal channel.

According to the media firm, they spent a lot on advertising and promoting the song, which they think positively impacted Badshah’s personal brand, public perception, and overall popularity.

On more than one occasion, Badshah has faced legal complications. Previously, he was called by the Maharashtra Police’s Cyber Cell due to his promotion of the digital betting platform, FairPlay.

Together with Badshah, approximately 40 other famous personalities found themselves under review for promoting the app, igniting a discussion about the moral considerations involved in celebrity endorsements.

Viacom18 asserted ownership of the rights to broadcast specific sporting events and accused FairPlay of illegally streaming those games. Additionally, they alleged that certain personalities endorsed the tournament on the FairPlay platform without permission.

Lawyer Prashant Patil explained that Badshah had received a call from the Mumbai Cyber Crime Unit regarding the matter of FairPlay.

As per Patil’s statement, the dispute with FairPlay was centered around accusations that they were illegally streaming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches belonging to a prominent company. This allegation prompted authorities to call upon several celebrities, including Badshah, for questioning as potential witnesses.

Patil made clear that Badshah was called upon under Section 160 of the CrPC as a witness, not as someone being charged. He clarified that Badshah had been helpful during the investigation, supplying bank records to show he hadn’t broken any laws. Patil promised that if needed, Badshah would keep cooperating with the authorities.
