Ratatouille's Patton Oswalt Dropped A Three-Word Response After Seeing Video Of Motorized Remy Built By A Fan For Halloween Costume

Oh my gosh, I’ve seen some impressive Halloween costumes in my time, but nothing compares to this motorized robot Remy by @shebuildsrobots! As a long-time Ratatouille enthusiast and an engineering nerd, I can confidently say that this is the ultimate Halloween costume. I mean, who else has the dedication to code a miniature rat that can actually pull their hair like Remy does in the movie?

Halloween is such a fun time of year, and I love seeing all the creative costumes people share on the internet. If you don’t know what to dress up as, Pixar movies can serve as a great inspiration and starting point. I personally always feel like Halloween is a contest to see who has the most creative costume. After seeing one fan’s video of her Ratatouille costume, Patton Oswalt and I can confirm she’s already won.

I’ve seen many Ratatouille costumes in my day, and usually, it’s a good choice for couples celebrating the spooky holiday. One person is usually dressed as a rat, sitting on the other person’s shoulders as they don a chef’s hat. However, one Instagram user (@shebuildsrobots) blew everyone else out of the water when she posted a Reel showing how she used her engineering degree to make a realistic motorized robot Remy.

The video demonstrates her methodical approach to designing and programming a miniature rat. If only I possessed such commitment when crafting my Halloween outfits!

This Halloween costume is simply amazing, making me wonder why Disney hasn’t considered hiring her to create the enchantment of Ratatouille in their theme parks. (Paraphrased from “This might be the best Halloween costume I’ve ever seen, and I’m left wondering why Disney hasn’t hired her yet to help them with bringing Ratatouille magic to life in the parks.”)

This often overlooked masterpiece by Pixar is packed with memorable scenes and ranks high among their finest films in my estimation. It’s undeniably my top choice, and I can hardly contain my excitement to have stumbled upon this video on my feed. To put it simply, I’m speechless, so here’s a quote from Remy the Rat (Patton Oswalt) that captures our collective sentiments: “[This movie] is pure magic!

This. Is. BRILLIANT.

Picture an enthusiastic narrator from this era admiring your Halloween costume! This is truly remarkable, and it certainly earns applause akin to Oswalt’s!

Remy, with his flawless character design, was an ideal choice to replicate, and considering his diminutive size, managing to gently tug her hair is a detail that many Ratatouille costumes don’t have (especially when it’s worn by a single person). Alas, where was this girl while the Ratatouille TikTok music craze was unfolding during the pandemic? Truly, she seemed to be missing from the scene!

It’s clear that the actor from The Secret Life of Pets still has a deep affection for his character’s rodent counterpart, just as fans do. Although I’d jump at the chance for more Remy scenes, it appears neither Oswalt nor the original team are planning a sequel or live-action Ratatouille remake anytime soon. After all, why tinker with something that’s already near-perfect?

At the moment, I’ll make do with fantastic fan-made creations such as this one, and truthfully, I can’t find any fault with that. The only individual who might surpass this robotic Remy costume is Heidi Klum, the undisputed queen of Halloween. However, for her to outdo it, she would need to teach a live rat to stay under a hat and tug at her hair. Given her history of extraordinary costumes, I wouldn’t rule it out.

By the way, if you’re curious about how lifelike this fan’s robotic Remy is, you can stream Ratatouille on Disney+, which is accessible for those who have a subscription.
