Rati Agnihotri had ‘marital issues’ with husband Anil Virwani but they aren’t separated, clarifies son Tanuj: ‘Ups and downs happen…’

As an avid fan of the Bollywood industry, I have been following Rati Agnihotri’s career since her debut in the 1980s. Her journey from Ek Duuje Ke Liye to Kshatriya was nothing short of spectacular. However, the infamous fallout with her husband Anil Virwani in 2015 cast a long shadow over their relationship.

Rati Agnihotri and Anil Virwani have been married for more than 39 years, but there was a well-known dispute between them in 2015. In that year, Rati filed a police complaint alleging that Anil had subjected her to mental anguish and physical violence. This incident sparked rumors that the couple had parted ways following the argument. However, their son Tanuj Virwani has recently confirmed that they remain together as a couple.

In a conversation with NDTV, the actor of Yodha clarified why people continue to claim his parents were separated. He stated, “Contrary to what some may say, my parents are not separated. They experienced marital difficulties between 2015 and 2016, which led to a temporary separation during that timeframe. However, since then, they have resolved their differences, and everything is well now. We even share the same roof, take vacations together, and dine together.”

Virwani emphasized that when couples get married, they will inevitably face “highs and lows,” which is why they may have difficulties at times, as we see now. He explained that since he was an only child, Tanuj felt it was his duty to act as a mediator between them and resolve their disputes. “I believe I managed to do so. Everything turns out well in the end,” he concluded.

Rati Agnihotri and Anil Virwani exchanged wedding vows in 1985, but as reported by PTI, Rati submitted a complaint to S Jaykumar, the deputy police commissioner (zone-III), on March 16, 2015. The case filed against Virwani involved charges under IPC sections 498A (for subjecting his wife to cruelty), 323 (inflicting physical harm), 350 (use of force), and 506 (making threats) as stated by Jaykumar at that time.

According to the report, it was on March 7 that Rati, a well-known actress from the ’80s and ’90s who starred in films like Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981), Rajput (1982), Kshatriya (1987), Batwara (1989), and Love Story (1981), first verbally expressed her complaint at the police station. This was after she arrived there to display injuries on her hands, which she claimed were caused by Anil Virwani’s alleged beating.
