As a long-time Netflix enthusiast with a knack for uncovering hidden gems and a critical eye for both quality and audience reception, I must say that the current streaming landscape is nothing short of fascinating.
Each week brings fresh and engaging Netflix releases spanning various genres in 2024, with an impressive range of projects. Over the last seven days, the top-ranked films and TV shows have been “Rebel Ridge” and “The Perfect Couple.” Yet, upon closer inspection of the recent blockbusters, we found one movie’s success to be unexpectedly viral.
Rebel Ridge And The Perfect Couple Are Dominating Netflix Views
First, let’s analyze the types of figures generated by Rebel Ridge and The Perfect Couple.
In its inaugural week on Netflix, “Rebel Ridge” garnered an impressive 68 million hours of streaming, following a barrage of positive reviews from critics, particularly acknowledging Aaron Pierre’s allure in the action-thriller. As it enters its second week, “Rebel Ridge” maintains its top position on the platform, despite the recent arrival of Joey King’s “Uglies”. If you enjoyed the film, be sure to read our interview with the director of “Rebel Ridge”, discussing the behind-the-scenes details of its production.
In terms of television viewing, “The Perfect Couple” was the most popular series on many binge-watch lists last week. This series is an adaptation from Elin Hilderbrand’s novel for screen and boasts some well-known actors such as Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, among others. Given these factors, it’s not surprising that many Netflix subscribers chose to watch it.
During its inaugural week, Netflix announced that a six-episode miniseries was watched for approximately 103 million hours. As we enter the next week, The Perfect Couple continues to lead the popular shows on the streaming platform. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that critics have expressed their admiration for The Perfect Couple!
But, The Deliverance Was A Sneaky Netflix Hit, Too
One lesser-known fact that might not be widely discussed is the substantial success Lee Daniels’ “The Deliverance” has achieved on the streaming platform.
Despite the fact that the film, “The Deliverance,” boasts a stellar cast including Glenn Close, Andra Day, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Mo’Nique, and Omar Epps, and with fall being the season for horror movies, it has failed to impress both critics and audiences. Evidence of this can be seen in its Rotten Tomatoes scores which are at 33% (Tomatometer) and 42% (Popcornmeter).
Despite facing a lot of criticism, the show garnered 41 million hours of streaming in its initial week, coming just short of Rebel Ridge. It’s still holding strong in the top 10 this week (currently at No. 9 in my region). It seems that many people may have started it out of curiosity or to prepare for discussions about Glenn Close’s surprising and viral performance.
Netflix statistics consistently astound me as I find it fascinating to observe what massive numbers of viewers collectively choose to watch. For instance, four million people opted for watching “Aloha” last week? It seems no one warned them about the movie’s lackluster quality! Regardless, keep enjoying your streaming experience, folks!
