Regina Hall, Ice Spice Join New ‘SpongeBob’ Movie

That pineapple under the sea is getting pretty crowded.

On Tuesday, the cast for the upcoming movie “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” produced by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation was announced, featuring new members Regina Hall, Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, George Lopez, and Ice Spice. Additionally, Ice Spice, a four-time Grammy nominee and multi-platinum rapper, will contribute an original song to the film.

The new cast for “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” was revealed on Tuesday, with Regina Hall, Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, George Lopez, and Ice Spice joining the team. Also, Ice Spice, a well-known rapper who has been nominated for four Grammys and sold many records, will add an original song to the movie.

The original cast members Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, and Mark Hamill will reunite in the upcoming movie directed by Derek Drymon and written by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman, who also voiced their respective characters in SpongeBob SquarePants.

In the upcoming movie, SpongeBob and his companions embark on an underwater adventure to confront the spirit of the Flying Dutchman. This film is scheduled to hit theaters in December.

At the Annecy international animation festival in France on Tuesday, Ramsey Naito, head of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, unveiled some exciting news. During the studio showcase, attendees got a glimpse at upcoming projects from both Paramount and Nickelodeon, such as Chris Miller’s Smurfs movie, PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2.

In the presentation, Drymon unveiled the entire first act of “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants“, while Miller shared the initial 20-minute segment of “Smurfs“. The latter movie is set to hit theaters on July 18. In it, Rihanna portrays Smurfette, who according to Drymon, demonstrated an impressive understanding of Smurf folklore, surpassing his own knowledge. The film boasts a star-studded voice cast featuring John Goodman, James Corden, Nick Offerman, Sandra Oh, Natasha Lyonne, Amy Sedaris, Daniel Levy, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Marshmello, Jimmy Kimmel, and Kurt Russell.

The gathering came to an end with the unveiling of two animated films. “SpongeBob: Order Up,” directed by Sean Charmatz, is set to be shown in cinemas before “Smurfs” this July. Meanwhile, “Chrome Alone 2: Lost in New Jersey,” a short film featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles under the direction of Kent Seki, will debut alongside “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” in December.
