Renée Zellweger Gets Honest About Why She Took A Six-Year Break From Hollywood

The lineup for movies in 2025 is jam-packed with enticing titles and well-known faces, among them being the upcoming Bridget Jones film and its leading actress, Renée Zellweger. This multi-talented woman, who is both an actress, producer, and writer, will grace our screens once more after a six-year absence from Hollywood. Prior to her return to the silver screen in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy this coming February, she candidly discussed her reasons for stepping away from the limelight.

Bridget Jones’s comeback seems like a heartfelt reunion for Zellweger, given her extended hiatus from Hollywood. As evidence, she discussed with British Vogue the continuation of the beloved rom-com series, her notable professional and personal milestones, and her thrilling journey back to acting. When asked about her decision to step away for six years initially, the star of Chicago explained:

To break the monotony and escape the repetition of my own emotional expressions, I felt compelled to change something in my situation. Working became like a tape loop of my feelings: ‘Oh dear, here you go again with your sadness, Renee. Or is this your angry voice?’ It was all too familiar, a rehash of past emotions.

It’s unexpected to learn that the actress from Cold Mountain seemed overwhelmed by her numerous job commitments. Given her impressive roster of top 10 films, one wouldn’t assume she’d experience this kind of stress. Yet, it’s reasonable to think that even those in their dream careers might require a break occasionally.

The actress who starred in “Jerry Maguire” candidly discussed her experiences during her break from acting and how they eventually brought her back to the spotlight in Hollywood. In doing so, she disclosed:

Negative, negative, negative. My background includes composing music and obtaining a degree in international law. I have also constructed a house, saved a pair of senior dogs, established a business partnership resulting in a production company, supported and fundraised for a sick friend, and invested significant time with my family, godchildren, and traveling across the country with the dogs. Over time, I managed to regain my health.

It’s fantastic to hear that Zellweger managed to tackle what was necessary, discover fresh passions, and adapt to different lifestyles, all contributing to her personal growth. Her achievements and the way she has spent her time seem so compelling that they could easily be turned into a captivating movie plot.

Additionally, during that break, it’s worth mentioning that Judy became romantically involved with Ant Anstead, a well-known host of various car and mechanic shows in the UK, around spring 2021. Although they prefer to keep their private life under wraps, their relationship appeared to deepen after the reality star sold his house in 2023, and they continue to be content together.

All in all, it’s fantastic to learn that Renee Zellweger is thriving, be it in her professional or personal life. It appears as though those six years have worked wonders for her, and I eagerly anticipate that this new Bridget Jones film signifies the beginning of a prosperous and joyful chapter in her acting journey.
