Resident Evil 1 remake had better not cut the Black Tiger boss fight

Resident Evil 1 remake had better not cut the Black Tiger boss fight

As a seasoned Resident Evil fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must confess, the prospect of a potential RE1 Remake has me both excited and apprehensive. The original game is etched into my gaming memory, and the Spencer Mansion holds a special place in my heart. However, the fear that one of its most iconic creatures – the Black Tiger spider boss – might be omitted from the remake is causing me a considerable amount of distress.

Among Capcom’s timeless franchises, none has seen as much evolution as the Resident Evil series. Although Resident Evil 6 in 2012 is often criticized, the franchise is currently thriving following the success of RE: Village and a series of successful remakes.

Instead of moving forward with a modernized Resident Evil 5 remake, some fans might be more excited about a reimagining of the original game in the vein of the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake. Although the 1996 classic was given the remake treatment on the GameCube and received an HD remaster in 2015, there’s still a strong desire to revisit the Spencer Mansion.

Resident Evil fans are worried a remake could remove the Black Tiger

Do you think Black Tiger will be omitted in a potential RE1 Remake?

The Resident Evil games are known for creating some weird and wonderful monsters like giant lake sharks, zombie monkeys, Batipillars, and whatever the hell Lickers are, but sadly, Capcom seems to be suffering from a case of arachnophobia. After spiders were cut from the 2020 RE3 remake, players are worried the OG will do the same.

On the Resident Evil subreddit, fans were contemplating the imminent return of RE1 and speculating about potential changes. The Black Tiger spider boss is what terrifies some individuals when it comes to spiders, but following RE3’s substitution of its spiders for “parasites resembling fleas“, one user humorously suggested, “It seems like someone at Capcom developed an arachnophobia“.

Someone else added, “If they add hyper realistic giant killer spiders then it’d be the scariest Resident Evil in the series,” and a third concluded, “My irrational fear of spiders wants them to not return, but the purist in me wants them there.” Even though we know you have to move with the times, omitting the Black Tiger seems like a massive misstep.

Resident Evil 4 included the Spider Plagas enemies, but remember, it wasn’t long until modders gave you an option to remove them. Even though many modern games have an arachnophobia mode, the Black Tiger’s presence as a pretty major boss battle means it’s not as simple as blurring it out.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation for the potential return of spiders in the upcoming Resident Evil 1 remake, if they’ve managed to perfect their movement as previously reported. If so, it would be a delight to welcome the fearsome Black Tiger back into our gaming world, ensuring it receives the justice it rightfully deserves. However, all that remains is for Capcom to officially announce this highly-anticipated remake, and I, along with countless others, will eagerly await its arrival.
