Resident Evil 9’s New Stalker is Even Scarier Than Mr. X

When we thought Resident Evil 9 couldn’t become any more chilling, Capcom has upped the ante in their newest survival horror installment by introducing a fresh Stalker-like monster that echoes Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, yet is even more spine-tingling.

At a recent gathering organized by Capcom for selected game reporters and trendsetters, it was evident that this new addition to the Resident Evil series could revolutionize the franchise. Particularly striking was the fact that the game appears to have overcome its long-standing identity issue by providing both third-person and first-person perspectives from the outset.

A notable aspect highlighted in previews is the introduction of a Stalker-esque adversary encountered during the demo, said to last between half an hour and an hour. This unyielding antagonist persistently pursues Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil 9: Requiem, mirroring the relentless tenacity of Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 and Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village. It doesn’t let up until you’re on the verge of exhaustion.

People who interacted with the demo were heard shouting while they ran away from this indescribable terror. Those fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the creature could only liken it to a giant, ranging from 10 to 20 feet tall, with a appearance similar to a grotesquely mutated woman. Gamers will recall it as the shackled beast hinted at in the game’s initial promotional video.

In the demo, certain players spent their time scouring for a misplaced fuse box, simultaneously experiencing being pursued in narrow, nerve-wracking spaces that brought to mind the character Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7. Some compared the experience to Alien: Isolation, emphasizing the AI’s uncanny intelligence and challenging nature to outmaneuver or elude. A few players went as far as drawing parallels between their encounter with the ominous “Giant Grandma” and their initial terrifying moments with “The Beast” from Amnesia: The Bunker by Frictional Games.

It seems the demonstration of the game remains hidden from public view, with no clips of gameplay available online. However, images have been released, highlighting the improved graphics thanks to the RE Engine. Detailed viewers have observed that the demo appears to be set in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, a location hinted at in Resident Evil: Outbreak 2’s subway section. Eagle-eyed gamers have also noted that Rhodes Hill is near Arklay, suggesting that this demo probably takes place in the well-known Raccoon City.

There remains a lot we’re yet to learn about the upcoming game, Resident Evil 9: Requiem, especially its narrative and the enigmatic secondary playable character. However, with the glimpses we’ve had thus far, the excitement is definitely growing.

The upcoming Resident Evil 9: Requiem is promising to be the scariest installment of Capcom’s Resident Evil series so far, with a scheduled launch on February 27, 2026 – less than eight months from now.
