Richard Gadd-Starring HBO, BBC Series ‘Half Man’ Adds to Ensemble Cast

Four new actors – Mitchell Robertson, Stuart Campbell, Neve McIntosh, and Marianne McIvor – have been added to the cast for the upcoming HBO and BBC drama now known as “Half Man,” previously titled “Lions,” penned by Richard Gadd.

Following the announcement of Baby Reindeer’s creator and star, Nick Mohammed (Gadd) and Jamie Bell, as leads for Half Man, I’ve learned that this series will be making its way onto HBO in the U.S. and BBC in the U.K. and Ireland. As the creator and executive producer of this new project, it marks my first venture since Baby Reindeer became a Netflix sensation and racked up several Emmys.

In “Half Man,” we trace the turbulent relationship between brothers Niall (Bell) and Ruben (Gadd), whose reunion at a wedding triggers a chain of events that propel viewers through four decades of their past, starting from their initial encounter as teenagers to their estrangement as adults. This six-part series, currently being filmed in Scotland, features Robertson portraying young Niall, Campbell as young Ruben, McIntosh as Lori, Niall’s mother, and McIvor as Mauram, Ruben’s mother.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the intricate, multi-decade narrative about two remarkable men boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Among them are Charlie De Melo, Bilal Hasna, Julie Cullen, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, Charlotte Blackwood, and Calum Manchip. Each of these talented actors promises to bring the story to life in a captivating way!

In June of 2024, HBO teamed up with BBC to greenlight the series. Lindsay Salt, who previously oversaw the production of “Baby Reindeer” for Netflix, now holds the position of drama director at the BBC. She played a significant role in bringing “Half Man” to both the BBC and HBO.

Gadd, who secured a first-look deal at Netflix following the pickup of the Half Man series, is serving as executive producer on this drama alongside Tally Garner and Morven Reid from Mam Tor Productions (a subsidiary of Banjilay UK), Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, and Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland. Wendy Griffin is handling production duties, while Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck are set to direct.
