RIIZE’s Management Says Seunghan Is Leaving the K-Pop Group Days After Announcing His Return

As a dedicated BRIIZE fan since their debut, I find myself both saddened and puzzled by the sudden turn of events surrounding Seunghan‘s departure from RIIZE. The rollercoaster of emotions we’ve experienced in just two days is akin to the highs and lows of a K-Pop concert – exhilarating one moment, heartbreaking the next!

According to a recent post on their official social media platform, K-Pop artist Seunghan has decided to depart from the boy band RIIZE.

The news breaks merely two days following the announcement by Wizard Production, who manage SM Entertainment’s group, that the 21-year-old is set to make his much-anticipated comeback after a break of almost a year.

On October 13th, a message was shared via RIIZE’s original platform (previously Twitter), translated by Soompi, where Wizard Production apologized to BRIIZE (the group’s fanbase) for causing distress and confusion with their announcement on Oct. 11 that Seunghan would rejoin the band. The sudden about-face appeared unexpected to the fans, prompting many emotional responses in the post’s comments section, expressing shock and disappointment.

In November 2023, Seunghan was temporarily withdrawn from public activities due to private images and clips of him from before his group’s debut being published on the internet. The leaked material contained footage of him kissing an unknown woman in a bed and smoking a cigarette.

The October 11th announcement, as interpreted by Soompi, expressed hope for the band’s future, revealing that the singer is anticipated to participate in group activities starting from November.

Wizard Production has shared that they’ve deeply invested emotional effort into the development of RIIZE from before their debut. They believe that the upcoming chapter of RIIZE would hold greater significance if all seven members were present. After careful deliberation with staff and band members regarding the future direction, it’s been decided that Seunghan will rejoin the group.

The October 13th statement expressed that the company believed Seunghan’s comeback, following a period of reflection on his past mistakes, would bring more joy to both the artist and the fans. However, after considering all the feedback from fans, they recognized that their decision to bring him back had instead caused more pain and confusion among the fanbase.

Simultaneously, it’s been made clear that Seunghan wishes to exit RIIZE, not only for the benefit of the group members but also for the fans. In light of this choice, we are officially announcing that Seunghan is leaving RIIZE, rather than joining the group.

In a letter sent through the fan platform Weverse, Seunghan expressed his reasons for leaving the group. “After thoroughly contemplating if I’ve been overly self-centered, if my actions might be hurting my fellow band members and the company, and if it’s truly fair for me to remain in RIIZE, who should be cherished, all I could feel was anxious and remorseful,” he wrote, as translated by Soompi.

I believe it’s best for all involved that I depart from the group. I aim to prevent any additional pain or confusion among the fans, protect my fellow members, and not cause further harm to the company.

The performer expressed concern that his actions might harm the bond between RIIZE and their supporters, stating “it’s equally distressing to witness fans who simply adore RIIZE quarrelling due to my involvement.

Currently, a Change.Org petition initiated by user Lauren Lim on October 13, entitled “Bring back Seunghan! Riize is 7!!!!!,” has amassed more than 85,000 signatures upon its publication.

RIIZE has not released any further statements.
