Rishi Kapoor Birth Anniversary: Meenakshi Seshadri remembers her ‘down-to-earth’ Damini co-star: ‘He comes from legendary family but...'

As an ardent fan of the timeless charm that is Rishi Kapoor, I find myself deeply moved by the heartwarming tales of his camaraderie and humility, as beautifully portrayed by Meenakshi Seshadri. Her reminiscences of their shared journey in the glamorous world of Bollywood, their neighborly bond, and Rishi’s humble gesture of introducing her to the world once more through social media, paint a vivid picture of a man who was not just an actor but a genuine soul.

4th September is a special day, as it marks the birth anniversary of the legendary actor Rishi Kapoor and his Damini co-star, Meenakshi Seshadri, who fondly remembers him. The esteemed actress, who retired from the industry in 1994, reminisces about her introduction by the late Rishi Kapoor on a platform similar to Twitter in 2015

Meenakshi thought Rishi’s considerate action was extremely charming. “I found it incredible,” she expressed, reminiscing about their encounter earlier in June that year, which happened at Rishi Kapoor’s residence in Mumbai. She added, “Despite hailing from a renowned family of talent, he had no airs. He was so humble.”

Seshadri explained, “I frequently dropped by because we lived near each other. He resided in Pali Hill, I was based in Union Park, Khar. While I won’t claim that we were extremely close, Chintu ji and I had a strong connection. We collaborated on several films together.” Rishi Kapoor also posted a picture with the actress on his Twitter account, which is displayed as the header image for this news article

On June 30, 2015, Kapoor sahab posted: “Any thoughts on who this might be? I was taken aback for a moment, but it was a delightful surprise! No hints for the next 30 minutes. Who is she?” This tweet quickly spread like wildfire, as many struggled to recognize Meenakshi due to her significant transformation

In 1995, Seshadri not only retired from the film industry after marrying Harish Mysore, an investment banker, but also relocated permanently from India. After living in the United States for many years, she felt a strong pull to return home in 2023. In an interview with HT City, Meenakshi described this choice as ‘difficult’ and confessed that it was tough for her to leave both her native country and her creative career

“Regarding that challenging blend of events, relinquishing my previous identity and starting anew in America was not simple for me,” the actress from Ghayal admitted, sharing that she had indeed tried persuading her husband to remain in India. However, despite his efforts, it didn’t pan out, ultimately leading both of them to establish their lives in the United States

Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.
