As a devoted follower of Bollywood and its rich history, I have had the immense pleasure of witnessing the brilliance that is Aruna Irani. Her illustrious career, spanning over six decades, has not only left an indelible mark on Indian cinema but also offered us captivating insights into the lives of some of our most beloved stars.
Veteran actress Aruna Irani, well-known for her captivating performances in films, has left an indelible mark on the industry. Lately, she fondly recalled her experiences working alongside Rishi Kapoor on the iconic movie “Bobby”. She characterized him as a playful and mischievous presence during filming. Moreover, Irani tenderly recounted a touching story about Raj Kapoor, who exhibited his kindness by halting production when she suffered from a headache while shooting. This act underscored his genuine concern for the well-being of his fellow actors.
In a recent conversation with ETimes, Aruna Irani reminisced about Rishi Kapoor during their work together on Bobby. She characterized him as having a playful, youthful spirit. Notably, Raj Kapoor did not interact with Rishi as his son while filming but rather approached him as a budding actor to mold for the role.
Speaking about our shared projects, she mentioned, “I’ve worked on several films with Rishi Kapoor. He was truly delightful. He had a playful spirit as a kid. As an actor, he was incredibly collaborative, always working well with directors and fellow actors.
The seasoned actress warmly shared a story about the time director Raj Kapoor demonstrated exceptional kindness towards his actors by postponing a filming session upon hearing about her having a headache. She reminisced about an evening during which, while they were all waiting for the lighting to be arranged for a party scene, she started feeling sick.
When Raj saw her looking uneasy, he quickly halted production, even though it was a costly scene where she was trying to charm Rishi’s character while wearing a green dress. Although she suggested they carry on filming after taking medication, Raj insisted on delaying the shoot. As an actor himself, he emphasized the value of health and his concern for his cast left a deep impact on her.
Apart from reflecting fondly on the past, Aruna mentioned how Raj Kapoor had been kind to his son, Rishi Kapoor, and Dimple Kapadia during filming. She specifically noted that unlike many others in similar positions, Raj treated Rishi not as a family member but as a novice, emphasizing the development of their talent over their familial relationship.
If errors occurred, he’d speak more assertively, yet he promptly praised their accomplishments too. Aruna emphasized the good fortune of having a boss who managed both strictness and motivation so skillfully.
Aruna Irani is widely recognized for her exceptional adaptability and skill, with a long-lasting career that stretches across more than six decades. Known as a seasoned figure in the world of cinema, she has breathed life into some truly iconic characters in movie lore.
She has a vast collection of movies under her belt, which features numerous timeless pieces like Bombay to Goa, Caravan, Raja Babu, Beta, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Dil To Pagal Hai, Fakira, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Bobby, Kudrat, Do Phool, Sargam, and Gopi Kishan, along with several more.
