In his role as Jack Reacher in Prime Video’s action series adapted from Lee Child’s novels, is no stranger to delivering brutal fights. However, during the filming of Season 3’s finale, things took an unexpected turn for the worse when he decided to perform a stunt personally, only to suffer the consequences and endure some injuries as a result of his commitment to delivering an authentic performance.
In the concluding episode of the third season for Reacher, a particularly grueling fight scene unfolded, pitting Reacher against the formidable Paulie in a barn fight that turned out to be an edge-of-your-seat spectacle, both for viewers and filmmakers. The prolonged duel between these characters required nearly a month to capture on camera, given its substantial length – around 30 minutes of the entire episode – and one specific moment tested the limits for Ritchson during production.
In essence, it’s all about showing Jack Reacher being tossed around for a full five minutes without a break. My intention was to make it clear that I’m enduring this on behalf of him and ultimately, for us.
During the unfolding of events, it turned out to be an ideal scenario for capturing footage. However, this instance didn’t just elevate Ritchson to a higher degree of discomfort, but it was witnessed by his kids who happened to be on set at the time. He further commented:
He pushed me violently through a table, sending me tumbling into what seemed like the deepest depths of hell. After a day and a half, I regained consciousness. When I woke up, I had to assure my children that I was fine, as I didn’t want them to think their father had passed away.
Alan Ritchson Had to Work to Get His ‘Reacher’ Role
Initially, the character Jack Reacher wasn’t always destined to be played by Ritchson; there was a point in time when another actor could have taken on the role. This is what the actor reminisced about more recently.
Landing that part wasn’t a breeze… It took eight months of rigorous auditioning. After going through such a lengthy process, did you think they made me feel valued at the end? Unfortunately, I learned later on, they had already promised the job to someone else. Despite my impressive performances during the auditions, they found themselves in a predicament, having to seriously consider this person who was initially just added as an option. In the end, I managed to secure the role.
The fourth season of Reacher is under development, but details are yet to be finalized. However, fans of Reacher can anticipate a separate series focusing on the character of Frances Neagley, portrayed by Maria Stern in the show. This spinoff is also being produced and should make its way onto Prime Video towards the end of this year.
Over the past few weeks, Reacher has been unbeatable on Prime Video’s worldwide rankings. Its rising popularity suggests that another season is highly probable, and it seems that Reacher is here to stay for quite some time.
