As a seasoned gamer and a voracious consumer of all things entertainment, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that “Rivals” is coming back for another round! Having grown up with Jilly Cooper’s novels and being an avid fan of British dramas, this news has sent me into a frenzy.
Looking forward to it – the next installment of the popular British drama “Rivals” is coming soon! Disney+ announced on Wednesday that their highly-rated series, adapted from Jilly Cooper’s novel, will continue for another season following the thrilling cliffhanger of its first season finale.
Featuring a high-profile ensemble cast consisting of Aidan Turner, David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Bella Maclean, Emily Atack, Victoria Smurfit, Katherine Parkinson, Danny Dyer, Nafessa Williams, and Luke Pasqualino, the show has garnered immense popularity among Disney+ viewers.
The narrative delves into Cooper’s book about the notorious rogue Rupert Campbell-Black (portrayed by Hassell) and his contentious rivalry with Tony Baddingham (Tennant). This rivalry spills over into Baddingham’s Corinium independent television station, which is set in the fictitious county of Rutshire, located within the Cotswolds region in southwest England.
The book titled “Rivals” is a part of Cooper’s popular Rutshire Chronicles series. The author expressed: “It’s been over 40 years since my novel ‘Rivals’ was released, but it’s heartwarming to see the world embracing my cherished characters – Rutshire’s Finest. And working with Happy Prince [ITV Studios] and Disney+ on the first season has felt like a fairy tale come true. I’m bursting with anticipation and can hardly wait for the comeback of my character Rupert Campbell-Black and the rest of the cast in season two!
Lee Mason, the director of scripted originals for EMEA Disney+, stated: “It’s been amazing to observe the response to Dame Jilly Cooper’s ‘Rivals’ – this autumn’s hottest topic. We’re delighted that fans of the books and those discovering the ‘Cooperverse’ for the first time have embraced the series. I can hardly wait to return to Rutshire and find out what intriguing plotlines the Happy Prince team has prepared for season two – let’s bring on more romance, intrigue, and power suits!
The show, titled “Rivals,” is overseen by executive producers Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Alexander Lamb, Felicity Blunt, Elliot Hegarty, Laura Wade, Dame Jilly Cooper, and Disney+ EMEA scripted content, with Jonny Richards also involved. (Previously produced shows include “A Very English Scandal,” “Holding,” “EastEnders,” “Ackley Bridge,” “The Bay,” “We Hunt Together,” “Cheaters,” “Ted Lasso,” and “The Riot Club.”)
Rivals will return to Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in the U.K. and internationally.
