‘Road House 2’: Guy Ritchie to Direct Sequel to Amazon MGM’s Hit Action Movie

Director Guy Ritchie has agreed to helm “Road House 2,” the follow-up to Amazon MGM Studio’s successful action film featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, in a simplified and engaging rephrasing.

Beal, known for his work on films like “Aquaman” in the realm of comic book adaptations and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” within action genres, is responsible for penning the screenplay.

Tom Hardy, previously portrayed as Dalton – an ex-UFC fighter who transitions to working as a bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys – will return to this character. Additionally, Tom Hardy, along with Josh McLaughlin, will produce this project under their joint production company, Nine Stories Productions. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment are also involved in producing this venture.

Tom Hardy will replay his character Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter turned bouncer in a Florida Keys bar. He’ll produce the movie with Josh McLaughlin from their production company, Nine Stories Productions, and Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment will help out too.

Plot details, as well as setting, are being kept under the shirt.

The 2024 film, a modern retelling of the 1989 movie famously starring Patrick Swayze, was helmed by director Doug Liman and penned by screenwriters Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. This remake became a blockbuster success for its streaming platform, drawing in approximately 80 million viewers globally on Amazon Prime Video within just eight weeks of its release.

Due to a severe dispute with Amazon regarding the movie’s release, Liman seemed unwilling to participate in a sequel. He argued that the movie deserved a theatrical release, while Amazon contended that the filmmaker opted for a streaming release, albeit at a higher production cost.

Ritchie is seen as an excellent choice to fill the role. The director already has a history with Gyllenhaal, having collaborated on the action drama “Guy Ritchie’s the Covenant,” produced by Amazon MGM during the Afghanistan war, which earned critical acclaim. Additionally, the director has demonstrated a knack for creating high-energy and intense films over several decades in the thriller genre.

Ritchie has proven to be a filmmaker with an explosive spirit, directing movies as if under a spell. Following the release of 2021’s “Wrath of Man”, he released two films in 2023 – “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre” and “The Covenant”. In 2024, he produced the Netflix series “The Gentlemen” and also put out the spy action caper “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”.

This year, he has two films currently being finalized for release, titled “Wife and Dog” and “In the Grey”. Additionally, there’s a movie called “Fountain of Youth”, featuring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, which will be available on Apple+. Ritchie is represented by William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (WME).

Prior to his career as a screenwriter, Beall served as an officer with the LAPD. Now, he is represented by three agencies: William Morris Endeavor (WME), Entertainment 360, and McKuin Frankel.
