As a longtime comic book enthusiast and follower of Rob Liefeld‘s illustrious career, it is with unbridled excitement that I welcome the return of one of my all-time favorite series: Youngblood! Liefeld’s masterful creations have been etched in my memory ever since the days when he was churning out iconic characters for Marvel. The fact that he’s revisiting the property that helped catapult Image Comics onto the scene is nothing short of thrilling.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the brilliant mind behind many iconic comic book characters, Rob Liefeld, is planning a comeback to the franchise that catapulted his post-Marvel journey over three decades ago!
I’m pumped to be back at the drawing board, diving into the world of Youngblood for Image Comics! Next year, you can find me bringing this iconic series back to life with my art and storytelling. This will be my first project on the franchise in seven years, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner up with Image co-founder Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. He’s the man who keeps the keys to this universe for Rip Media Inc., so you know it’s gonna be good!
I’m thrilled to step back into the warmth of the characters I brought to life, who sparked a revolution. They bear such rich history. My affection for Youngblood is immense. Creating these characters is the very essence of my enthusiasm.
Following Liefeld’s success with Deadpool, Cable, and X-Force for Marvel Comics, he along with other prominent creators left Marvel in 1992 to establish Image Comics. Youngblood was instrumental in propelling this new publisher into the limelight, becoming the first comic book series outside of Marvel or DC to debut at No.1 and sell over a million copies. The initial run of Youngblood miniseries ultimately sold an impressive 25 million copies worldwide. Over the course of its publication, it has spanned 100 issues, attracting top talent like Robert Kirkman, Alan Moore, and Mark Millar as contributors.
Apart from the upcoming series, Image Comics plans to release the “Youngblood Vault Edition,” which includes high-resolution scans of the original art from the initial Youngblood series, compiled in a premium large-format hardcover book. Furthermore, a special facsimile edition of Youngblood #1 will be available to celebrate its 33rd anniversary in April 2025.
Rob and I make a great pair, and I’m just as thrilled about Youngblood’s comeback as I was back in 1992 when it first came out,” said Rosenberg, further mentioning, “I can’t wait to introduce them to both old and new fans, alongside their original creator, Rob Liefeld.
