Robert Downey Jr. has assembled the Avengers to support the Thunderbolts*

Actor Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in the past, posted a picture on Instagram this Friday showing him along with some of his co-stars from Avengers: Endgame. The photo was taken after they watched the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Downey praised the film as “cool, fresh and deep” while also acknowledging “the Old Avengers” and a few newcomers in the group shot.

Wow, amazing! A dinner and performance with the classic Avengers – so exciting, modern, and thought-provoking. My warmest congratulations. #Thunderbolts,” Downey posted on Friday.

He stood together for a group photo with several of his “Avengers: Endgame” colleagues, such as Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Anthony Mackie (long-time Captain America actor and current franchise holder), and Winston Duke (M’Baku from Black Panther).

Simu Liu, a former Marvel colleague known for his role in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” was also spotted in the photograph with newcomers to the MCU and fellow cast members Channing Tatum, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for the movie “Doomsday.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tatum made his first appearance as Remy LeBeau/Gambit in the film “Deadpool & Wolverine“. This coming summer, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will bring Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman and Ben Grimm/The Thing to life in the movie “Fantastic Four: First Steps“, respectively.

After wrapping up his tenure at the mega-franchise after the release of Endgame in 2019, Downey announced that he would rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe by portraying the notorious villain Doctor Doom. This will debut next year in the film Doomsday, and he is also set to reprise the role in Avengers: Secret Wars slated for release in 2027.

In the movie, “Thunderbolts,” an unusual ensemble of antihero characters is brought together. Sebastian Stan, who has played a significant role in the series, reprises his character as Bucky Barnes. However, most of the other cast members are fresh faces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Alongside Stan, Florence Pugh portrays Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell takes on John Walker, David Harbour is Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman plays Bob, Hannah John-Kamen assumes the role of Ghost, Olga Kurylenko becomes Taskmaster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus portrays CIA director Valentine Allegra de Fontaine.
