Robert Downey Jr. Returning as Iron Man for Crowd-Pleasing Disney Project

As a seasoned film enthusiast with a soft spot for Marvel and a penchant for immersive experiences, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming additions to Disney’s Avengers Campus! The prospect of soaring through Tony Stark’s lab on the Stark Flight Lab ride is nothing short of exhilarating. And let’s not forget the multi-world adventure that awaits us in Avengers Infinity Defense, where we’ll team up with our favorite heroes to take on Thanos himself.

In a perfect union reminiscent of a movie heaven, Robert Downey Jr. and Marvel share an extraordinary bond. Following the unexpected news that he would reprise his role as Doctor Doom in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films like “Avengers: Doomsday“, it’s now been disclosed that he will once again assume the mantle of Tony Stark. Yet, don’t anticipate seeing him in the iconic red-and-gold suit on the big screen right away. At D23, Disney unveiled that the actor will lend his voice to Stark for two new Marvel attractions destined for Disneyland’s Avengers Campus.

The primary draw of this attraction is set to be the Stark Flight Simulator, as reported by IGN. Here, visitors will be partnered and given the chance to experience the thrill of flying like a superhero. When seated in the simulator, you’ll find yourself soaring at high speeds through one of Stark’s cutting-edge laboratories. During the unveiling, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro declared, “Are you ready for another mission? Tony Stark has a task for you. And as you know, Tony always seeks something innovative and exhilarating, and the Stark Flight Simulator will make you feel like a Superhero yourself.” The construction of the Stark Flight Simulator is scheduled to begin next year.

Besides the Stark Flight Lab, fans will additionally enjoy Avengers Infinity Defense, where they’ll encounter King Thanos, portrayed by Josh Brolin in the movies. Taking on the role of a participant, or as they refer to it, a recruit, you’ll join forces with heroes of varying sizes (including Ant-Man) and visit famous MCU film locations like Wakanda, Asgard, and New York City. Be prepared to confront Thanos himself when he seizes some of Stark’s worldwide technology, causing destruction everywhere.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share the exciting news that we’re gearing up for an epic multi-realm journey with “Avengers Infinity Defense”. This means it’s time to rally our forces because we’ll be uniting the Avengers to confront Thanos’ formidable army!

In addition to the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe rides, there are more exciting attractions on the horizon for various Disney parks. By 2026, guests visiting Disneyland Paris can expect a completely immersive Frozen realm, while adventure-lovers at Disney California Adventure Park can look forward to a Coco-themed ride and an awe-inspiring Avatar experience. As shared by Ali Rubinstein, the vice president of Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering, the Avatar attraction is set to be a “powerful, emotional journey” that transports visitors to a new location on Pandora, and it will serve as a tribute to the late Avatar producer, Jon Landau.

At the recent D23 event, Disney officials peered even deeper into the future, announcing that Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando will see a new addition called Tropical Americas, set to open in 2027. This expansion will feature entirely fresh Indiana Jones and Encanto themed attractions. As stated by D’Amaro, Disney “have been waiting for innovation to match our visions. Now, we’ve reached that point.”

I’m thrilled to share that I, a dedicated fan, will witness Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the silver screen. The much-anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday” is slated for release in May 2026. As for “Avengers: Secret Wars”, it’s set to premiere a year later, in May 2027.
