Robert Zehnder’s ‘Resurrection’ is a Quest Through Psychological Landscapes

Artistic talent Robert Zehnder is coming back to C L E A R I N G gallery for his newest solo exhibition, Resurrection, which can be seen until April 12. In this series of intriguing oil paintings, Zehnder explores the concept of transformation by merging traditional art history and modern digital environments to create a fresh mythology.

In the sceneries of “Resurrection“, there are strong influences from American Regionalism, but instead of evoking nostalgia, they present something more elusive. Instead of depicting actual locations, these almost-melted scenes function as mental states – symbols for how we take in, build, and disassemble meaning. The land appears to be alive, moving between stark reality and abstract dreaminess, as if constantly changing, like it’s in a continuous state of transformation.

The artist creatively blends physical and historical elements with a touch of digital escapism. This results in an engaging experience for viewers, where they find themselves exploring a gaming map designed by Zehnder himself – a realm defined by artificial environments, seemingly limitless in its illusory nature, but subtly regulated by unseen rules as described in the gallery’s remarks.

The pieces he creates are in a perpetual state of transformation, with meaning that shifts rather than remaining static. This exhibit encourages viewers to ponder the various landscapes – both physical and symbolic – that influence their lives, and to ponder if resurrection signifies going back to what was once lost or forging something entirely novel.
