Rocky Spinoff, Drago, Gets a Knockout Update From Creed 2 Star

Rocky Spinoff, Drago, Gets a Knockout Update From Creed 2 Star

As a lifelong aficionado of the Rocky franchise, steeped in its lore and character development for decades, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation at the prospect of a Drago spinoff. The fact that Florian Munteanu, who brought Viktor Drago to life in Creed 2, is so eagerly awaiting the project’s progress only reinforces my belief that this could be something truly special.

The Drago spinoff, featuring Florian Munteanu from “Creed 2” as Viktor, son of Ivan Drago (Rocky’s antagonist), is progressing well, according to Munteanu himself. In a recent conversation with Screen Rant, he shared that the project is currently in a strong position, with Rocky IV and action movie legend Dolph Lundgren putting effort into creating a unique ring entrance for the Dragos. The plan is to begin filming in 2025.

“I’m extremely thrilled about the current state of our project, which we’ve been working on for several years. I’m comfortable saying that we’re in a strong position at this point. Dolph and I are both quite pleased with our progress so far. However, there are many decisions to be made among us, and finding a mutual agreement will be crucial.”

Meanwhile, Munteanu and Lundgren’s proposed spinoff is yet to receive approval from the higher authorities. However, the former boxer-actor has hinted at what fans might experience in the upcoming movie titled Drago. It appears that things are going to take a grim turn…

“To accurately portray the characters and their background, the upcoming movie will have a somewhat somber tone compared to Creed. Since they hail from distinct worlds, environments, and upbringings, we aim to maintain authenticity while preserving the essence of these characters. Rest assured, we’re making great progress, and hopefully, by next year, we can share more details about the movie’s development.”

What Will the Drago Spinoff Be About?

Previously, Dolph Lundgren shared insights about the plot of the upcoming movie titled “Drago“. This spinoff will focus on a theme of immigration, with the story revolving around Ivan Drago and his son, as he detailed to Screen Rant.

As a seasoned actor with a rich background in the film industry, I’ve seen my fair share of changes and twists. Just when I was getting excited about the script for “Drago,” focusing on my character and my son, it seemed like the studio underwent a leadership change. The success of Creed III might have played a role in that decision, as they swiftly began planning for Creed IV. This all happened last year, but now, unfortunately, there’s an issue with one of the co-stars in Creed IV.

In the film Creed II, the story begins in Kyiv, Ukraine, which isn’t emphasized too strongly throughout the movie but serves as its opening setting. Interestingly, the script I read depicted a Russian invasion, creating challenging circumstances that eventually lead the characters to seek refuge in America.

In addition to rumors of a Drago spinoff, the Creed series is also anticipated to broaden its horizons. Michael B. Jordan is reportedly planning to reprise his role and even direct Creed 4. Although details about the upcoming film are scarce, Jordan has expressed his desire for the Creed universe to keep evolving and expanding further.

Florian Munteanu is set to feature in the upcoming movie adaption of “Borderlands,” scheduled for U.S. release by Lionsgate on August 9, 2024.
