Roku Picks Up X Games Streaming Rights in Sports Push

As a seasoned gamer and sports enthusiast with a penchant for cutting-edge streaming technologies, I must say I am thoroughly impressed by Roku’s strategic moves in the sports broadcasting arena. Having grown up watching ESPN’s coverage of extreme sports events like the X Games, it’s exciting to see this iconic competition find a new home on a platform that’s making waves in the streaming world.

Roku is continuing to add exclusive sports rights to its streaming platform.

As an ardent enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Roku has secured exclusive streaming rights for the X Games, the renowned extreme sports competition. Originally founded by ESPN, it was later sold to private equity in 2022. This partnership commences in January with X Games Aspen and is followed by a significant summer event.

The upcoming X Games can now be streamed through the newly introduced Roku Sports Channel. Additionally, Roku is debuting an X Games FAST channel and an X Games Zone, which serves as a central platform for viewing the competition live streams.

Roku is actively pursuing sport-related content opportunities, including both sports events and programs related to sports, with the aim of strengthening its Roku Channel and growing its advertising sector. Last year, it secured its first exclusive sports agreement with Formula E, followed by MLB games, NBA G League games, and NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, The Rich Eisen Show, and other sports programming.

Over the summer, they introduced their Roku Sports Channel as a platform for showcasing their live sports broadcasts and sports-related content.

As a fan myself, I’m thrilled about our collaboration with X Games! This partnership is like finding the ideal match between content and broadcasting. You see, over half of our monthly audience on The Roku Channel are adults aged 18-49, and that’s exactly who the X Games cater to – right where sports and youth culture intersect. I can’t wait for us to leverage Roku’s wide reach to bring these exhilarating competitions, starring the athletes at their core, straight to millions of viewers – all for free!

In my role as the new head of X Games, I’m excited to share that we’ve teamed up with Roku, a service that aligns with our dedication to offering top-notch experiences for both our athletes and spectators,” said Jeremy Bloom, CEO of X Games. “This alliance means that more people will get to witness the world’s leading action sports competitions, while also appreciating the talent, ingenuity, and enthusiasm displayed by the extraordinary athletes who make the X Games the pinnacle of action sports.
