Rotterdam Unveils 2025 CineMart Projects

As a cinephile with a penchant for international cinema, I find myself utterly captivated by the diverse and intriguing lineup of films presented at this year’s International Film Festival. The range of stories, styles, and techniques on display are a testament to the richness and vitality of global filmmaking.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned about my project being chosen for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR)’s CineMart co-production market for its 42nd edition in 2025! This takes place from February 2nd to 5th, with Rotterdam’s industry section, IFFR Pro Days, running a few days prior, from January 31st to February 5th. I can hardly wait for this exciting journey ahead!

Some notable projects scheduled for CineMart include Ukrainian director Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk’s film “Something Strange Happened to Me“, a sequel to his critically acclaimed debut “Pamfir“; the neo-Western “Enkop” by Kenyan filmmaker Angela Wanjiku Wamai; and the new movie from Daniel Mann, titled “The Uganda Project“, whose work “Under a Blue Sun” was featured in the Tiger Competition at Rotterdam in 2024.

The 2025 CineMart lineup, as one might anticipate from Rotterdam, boasts a varied selection thematically and geographically. Cheryl Dunye’s film Black Is Blue, delving into apprehensions about AI, is joined by Jazmín López’s Faust, an investigation into the roots of authoritarianism. Marcelo Gomes and Cao Guimarães’s film Cape of Pleasures presents dystopian futures, while Rioghnach Ni Ghrioghair’s Meat and Lam Li Shuen and Mark Chua’s Strange Root each offer fresh perspectives on the horror genre through their portrayals of cannibalism.

The immersive lineup includes Robin Coops’ musical experience One Charming Night and Lilian Hess’ Strata.

The “Darkroom” segment of Rotterdam will highlight filmmakers from Georgia, showcasing movies like Uta Beria’s “Tear Gas”, Alexandre Koberidze’s “Dry Leaf”, and Rati Oneli’s “Wild Dogs Don’t Bite”.

At the IFFR Pro Awards ceremony scheduled for February 5th, the Eurimages New Lab Awards will also be given out. These honors are presented to exceptional projects chosen from both the CineMart and Darkroom selections. The 2025 International Film Festival Rotterdam takes place from January 30th to February 9th.
