Rumored Spider-Man 4 Villains Would Bring Fan Favorite Characters To The MCU

For enthusiasts of everyone’s favorite web-spinning superhero, we’ve been eagerly anticipating updates on the fourth installment of Spider-Man, which has been challenging due to the continuous flow of new Marvel films and series. After the conclusion of No Way Home, we can’t wait to delve into the next chapter of Peter Parker’s life. A hint of a rumor gives us some insight into potential antagonists that could take center stage in the upcoming Spider-Man film.

In a recent Patreon post by industry expert Daniel Richtman (via ComicBook), he gave a sneak peek into the abandoned script for Spider-Man 4, hinting at the potential villains who might have appeared in the film. Although he didn’t reveal which villains took the place of those that were dropped, his post confirmed that Shocker and Scorpion were among the discarded characters.

So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the antagonists we’ve encountered haven’t had standalone appearances within the MCU itself; Shocker and Scorpion, for instance, made their debuts in the 2017 film “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, but they primarily functioned as part of Adrian Toomes’ gang. A substantial number of significant villains we’ve encountered across the MCU can be found among the Sinister Six, which has fueled speculation that a “Sinister Six” movie might be in our future.

For those unaware, the Sinister Six is a group consisting of six villains, typically including Shocker/Electro, Scorpion, Vulture, Kraven (with recent evidence suggesting that Kraven may soon have his own film), Doc Ock, and either Sandman or Mysterio in the final spot. This rotation of members has occurred over time, but the core six characters tend to remain consistent. The release of the upcoming “Kraven the Hunter” movie has fueled speculation that Sony and the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be considering a revival of their earlier attempts to bring these villains together on the big screen.

As a film enthusiast, I must say that the post-credit scene in Homecoming subtly alluded to the possibility of Scorpion gracing our screens in the future. However, considering the abandonment of these particular villains, it appears they opted for a different path, not only with the antagonists but also the overall narrative. It seems that this film is more about delving into Peter Parker’s psychological state following the No Way Home incidents. There might even be ties to Avengers: Doomsday, but we’ll have to wait and see.

All the details shared so far about Spider-Man 4 point towards speculation. The film may not pose a high risk, but it’s yet to be determined. It’s possible that some familiar characters will appear, though perhaps in smaller roles. We’ll simply have to keep watching. Currently, the movie is scheduled for release in July 2026, with filming set to begin towards the end of 2025. In the meantime, you can catch up on previous Spider-Man films by streaming them via a Disney+ subscription.
