Clearly, the past year has been filled with significant events for the high-profile duo Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. Their collaborator on her book, Justin Baldoni, has been embroiled in a legal tussle that has affected them as well. Amidst this ongoing situation, they’ve chosen to maintain a more subdued public presence. Recent reports suggest they won’t be attending the 2025 Met Gala, but their decision doesn’t appear to be connected to the legal issues at hand in this instance.
It’s not really shocking that Blake Lively (37) and Ryan Reynolds (48) are skipping this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art gala, according to Us Weekly’s report. The source close to Lively confirmed she won’t be there. To put it simply, Lively isn’t like the Kardashians who regularly attend every year. Moreover, it’s been three years since Reynolds and Lively last showed up at this annual New York fundraising event.
The report that the couple decided not to participate in this year’s event was supported by TMZ, and it’s said that they made their decision prior to Justin Baldoni’s legal issues. However, it’s worth noting that this duo has been regular attendees at the Met Gala in the past. The actress from “The Shallows” is particularly recognized for her stylish outfits at the Met Gala, such as the reversible dress she donned at the 2022 event, where they also served as co-hosts.
Although it’s not the legal situation that’s keeping the Green Lantern stars away from this year’s gala, a specific reason for their absence has yet to be disclosed. However, it’s important to note that they continue to be actively involved in other projects. Moreover, they are still dealing with the legal matters related to IEWU.

In December 2024, Blake Lively made a claim against Justin Baldoni, who was both the director and co-star with her on the set of “It Ends with Us”. She asserted that Baldoni subjected her to sexual harassment during filming, and further claimed that he and his PR team orchestrated a negative campaign against her. Baldoni refuted these accusations and later sued The New York Times for libel and other charges due to their publication of the allegations. Eventually, Lively took legal action against Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios (his production company), and others, citing the same grievances in her lawsuit. Later on, Baldoni counter-sued Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and others for extortion, defamation, and other offenses.
This year, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have skipped several events, including the Golden Globes. Contrary to speculation, their absence had nothing to do with Justin Baldoni at that time. However, they did make an appearance at the SNL50 event in February, with Reynolds even participating in a joke that seemed to jest about a legal dispute. Initially apprehensive, Lively later expressed satisfaction for attending.
It’s unclear why the two spouses decided to go to the Saturday Night Live (SNL) function instead of visiting the Met later this year. Regardless, it’s their private matter and they are free to attend events as they wish. Most of us won’t be there, but you can catch all the action when the celebrities arrive en masse on May 5.
