As a long-time fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Wesley Snipes’ iconic portrayal of Blade, I wholeheartedly support Ryan Reynolds’ call for Snipes to receive a “Logan-like” conclusion to his legendary character’s story.
In a nod to the screen, Ryan Reynolds, known for his role as Deadpool, has expressed a desire for Wesley Snipes‘ Blade character to have a “Logan-esque” ending after reprising the Marvel icon in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor joyfully acknowledged Snipes’ return as the Daywalker amidst the multiverse chaos of the box office-topping MCU sequel, posting behind-the-scenes snaps with Snipes and affectionately referring to him as “Marvel Daddy” on social media.
You can check out what Ryan Reynolds had to say about Wesley Snipes’ comeback below.
1. “Blade paved the way for the Marvel Universe we know today. He’s like Marvel’s father figure. Let’s honor him with a retweet, just as we did for Wolverine.”
Fans are advocating for Wesley Snipes’ character Blade to make another appearance, either within the Marvel Cinematic Universe or in a standalone fourth film. Many eagerly anticipate seeing Snipes emulate Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who received a fitting farewell in 2017’s Logan but later returned for an adventure with Deadpool. Similarly, it would be straightforward to give Blade a conclusive exit while keeping the door open for potential future appearances.
Indeed, another installment titled “Blade” could potentially adopt a fourth film’s approach that echoes Logan’s post-apocalyptic style, resurrecting an abandoned concept from 2004’s “Blade: Trinity.” The original idea by writer David S. Goyer envisioned Blade surviving in a world devastated by vampires, reminiscent of “I Am Legend.” In this tale, the remaining humans dwell in camps while vampires dominate the Earth. During daylight hours, Blade roams alone.
As a die-hard fan of the Blade franchise, I’d love to see a final chapter that Goyer initially rejected but later reconsidered. If he goes ahead with this approach, let’s title it “Daywalker” and watch as the ticket sales soar!
Ryan Reynolds Wanted to Give Wesley Snipes His Own ‘Legacy’ Moment
In addition to Reynolds’ call for one last appearance by Wesley Snipes as Blade, it’s been disclosed (through Variety) that the director of Deadpool and Wolverine, Shawn Levy, has shared details on how this comeback transpired.
In the early stages of planning, it was Ryan’s idea to bring Wesley back as Blade. We were keen on delving into themes such as legacies, characters, and their final chapters. Ryan expressed that Blade never truly had his defining moment, and fans might not realize how much they miss Wesley Snipes as Blade until they see him again. Therefore, Ryan reached out to Wesley, who hasn’t played Blade for a while and hasn’t been in close contact with Ryan for a long time. However, we made it clear to Wesley that this wasn’t just a joke; instead, it was an expression of respect for his iconic portrayal of the character and its lasting legacy.
Under the guidance of director Shawn Levy, who co-wrote the script with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, the film titled “Deadpool & Wolverine” features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. In this storyline, they are brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), who assign them a unique mission that takes them on an adventure through the chaos of multiple realities. The supporting cast includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Matthew Macfadyen, and others.
