As a lifelong movie buff with a penchant for superheroes and a soft spot for the Merc with a Mouth, I can’t help but be charmed by Ryan Reynolds’ latest holiday antics as Deadpool. The man knows how to blend humor with heart, and his partnership with Kidpool for a noble cause like SickKids Foundation is just another testament to that.
Actor Ryan Reynolds, who plays the characters Deadpool and Wolverine, has been feeling festive lately with his character Deadpool. Although Deadpool had previously saved Christmas once, he is now donning the red and black suit for a charitable reason in real life. Unfortunately, a holiday special may not be released soon as fans hoped, but they can still enjoy watching Deadpool celebrate the holidays.
In an extraordinary video shared on social media, Deadpool joins forces with Kidpool on a sleigh ride for charity, specifically to aid the SickKids foundation. To help achieve this goal, they enlist the assistance of actress Lynda Carter, who performs her renowned twirl without donning the traditional costume (according to Deadpool, likely due to legal constraints from DC). Ryan Reynolds humorously and endearingly shared this entertaining and heartfelt clip on Instagram, captioning it “I don’t need a lasso to express my gratitude for @sickkids.” The SickKids foundation supports The Hospital for Sick Children in Ontario, Canada, explaining why the cause holds such significance for Reynolds and his team.
Ever since Ryan Reynolds has resumed playing Deadpool and shared backstage photos during the holiday season, there’s been a lot of talk about a possible Marvel Cinematic Universe holiday special. However, all signs currently suggest that Reynolds is just capitalizing on the success of “Deadpool & Wolverine” by appearing in advertisements as the anti-hero. Still, it’s delightful to see Deadpool return earlier than expected, given his uncertain future within the MCU.
Deadpool Returns for a Good Cause During the Holiday Season
Although Deadpool and Wolverine demonstrated that R-rated movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe can succeed, it remains undecided whether a sequel is planned or if Deadpool will lead another film. However, Ryan Reynolds has expressed contentment with taking on a secondary role. It’s anticipated that he will make an appearance in future Avengers installments as a supporting character. This seems to be his vision for Deadpool’s future, rather than being the main focus of a film himself. In his own words:
I view Deadpool more as a sidekick than the lead character, often placing him in secondary roles due to the storyline requirements. However, he can only be the main focus if everything else is stripped away from him. I’m not sure if I can create such a scenario where he’s the underdog again, so if Deadpool returns, it will likely be in another character’s movie. Channing Tatum is eager to play Gambit, and I’d be thrilled to take on a supporting role in his film or anyone else’s.
After Marvel Studios considers where to place Deadpool next, fans can catch his MCU debut on Disney+. Should the charming mercenary return to the big screen, it’s probable he’ll bring along some familiar faces. For now, there’s ample time to rewatch the blockbuster sequel before then.
