As a longtime Marvel fan who has witnessed the evolution of this cinematic universe from its humble beginnings with Iron Man in 2008, I must say that Jon Favreau’s contribution to the franchise cannot be overstated. His role as Happy Hogan in various Marvel movies, including Deadpool 3, is a testament to his versatility and dedication to the Marvel family.
Warning: SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine are ahead!
In chronological order, Iron Man was the initial Marvel film, and while Robert Downey Jr.’s performance undoubtedly deserves much praise for its role in the movie’s success and kickstarting the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, it’s important to acknowledge Jon Favreau’s significant contribution as the director. Although Favreau directed only one more MCU film after that, Iron Man 2, he has remained involved with the franchise by portraying Happy Hogan. Recently, in the past two weeks since the release of the third installment on the 2024 movie schedule, Ryan Reynolds paid tribute to Favreau following his brief appearance in Deadpool 3.
Ryan Reynolds, the actor who plays Wade Wilson, posted official snapshots of his and Favreau’s shared scene in “Deadpool & Wolverine”, along with a backstage photo featuring them, Shawn Levy (director), Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios president) and Louis D’Esposito (co-president of Marvel Studios). In the caption, he showered Favreau with high praise, which you can read below:
