Ryan Reynolds Wants Disney to “Gamble” on an R-Rated ‘Star Wars’ Project

Ryan Reynolds is hoping that Disney will carry on the box office triumph of the R-rated versions of Deadpool and Wolverine by incorporating a similar approach within the Star Wars series.

Actor Ryan Reynolds shared during a recent episode of “The Box Office” podcast that he proposed the concept of a mature-rated (R) “Star Wars” franchise to Disney.

He proposed the idea, “I suggested to Disney, ‘How about we create an adult-oriented Star Wars series instead?'” Expounding on his suggestion, he added, “It doesn’t have to be focused solely on traditional, heroic characters. There’s a multitude of character options available.” And by R-rated, he didn’t mean explicit or vulgar content. Instead, he saw it as a vehicle for strong emotional depth. He often ponders why studios are hesitant to take risks like that and simply try something new.

Although the actor is open to the concept, he made it clear that he doesn’t wish to appear in any potential upcoming movie or series, stating that it wouldn’t suit him well. Instead, his preference lies in taking up roles behind the scenes such as producing or scriptwriting.

Reynolds clarified that he doesn’t necessarily wish to be a part of the Star Wars story itself, but rather, he’d prefer to produce, write, or contribute behind the scenes. These types of intellectual properties thrive on scarcity and surprises, and while we don’t have scarcity with Star Wars due to Disney+, there’s still potential for creating surprises.

He played a leading role, penned the script, and oversaw production for the highest-earning R-rated movie ever made, titled “Deadpool & Wolverine,” in collaboration with Marvel Studios and Disney. Although Ryan Reynolds has experience with R-rated productions, the “Star Wars” series has never initiated a project within this rating category. However, the Disney+ show “Andor” presents mature content.

Beyond his proposal for a new “Star Wars” production, reports suggest that Ryan Reynolds is also pondering another Deadpool movie, this time including X-Men characters according to The Hollywood Reporter. The concept for the project would likely involve three to four X-Men characters, with a possible secondary role for Reynolds’ Deadpool.

As I eagerly await his upcoming films, right now Ryan Reynolds is penning the hilarious script for Paramount’s movie titled “Boy Band”. This flick revolves around an oldie-but-goodie boy band group, can’t wait to see it!
