S.W.A.T. Star Responds to Shemar Moore’s ‘I’m Tom Brady’ Comment

Jay Harrington wants to reassure fans who may have been dismayed by Shemar Moore’s “I’m the Tom Brady of SWAT” comment. Moore has officially announced that he will headline the new spin-off series, along with an entirely fresh cast.

The cast of S.W.A.T. were already aware of the spinoff. As Jay Harrington put it, “[Shemar Moore] was the one to break the news to us.” When he shared this with his representatives, they were unaware of it. He has since accepted the sudden revelation. “What caused any dissatisfaction was that when they announced it, we weren’t even mentioned at all,” he stressed. “That was it. But it didn’t last long because I thought, ‘I’m not going to let that overshadow the eight years of hard work I know in my heart I put into some excellent performances‘.

In a post after the events unfolded, Moore acknowledged his fellow cast members of S.W.A.T.. He stated they put in a lot of effort to secure a ninth season, but instead, the franchise is focusing on S.W.A.T. Exiles. Moore praised the cast for the success of S.W.A.T., but his comment about them being “traded out” for the new team didn’t sit well. Harrington explained, “We often discuss sports and sports comparisons can be confusing because in this situation, we weren’t ‘traded,’ we were let go.

‘He’s Not Trying To Diminish Us’

Harrington also backed up Moore for stating he was retained due to not intending to belittle them. When he heard it, he said, “I recognize this individual and he’s not trying to undermine us,” he reminisced. “I tried my best not to interpret that as a personal attack. I think that when you make comparisons, sometimes the intended meaning may not be conveyed as you initially envisioned.” Referencing Moore’s statement, co-star David Lim recently spoke out about the cancellation in a post. He suggested the show’s success was due to its crew and larger cast.

In the original series, Moore and Harrington’s on-screen rivalry was a constant throughout its entire run. Similarly, Hondo and Deacon have had their differences since Season 1, but despite Deacon taking up his position as Hondo’s second-in-command, they’ve always maintained a cautious mutual respect. In the upcoming series S.W.A.T. Exiles, an entirely new cast will be introduced, but Harrington has left open the possibility of involvement in the spinoff, whether on screen or off, expressing interest in any capacity, including directing if given the opportunity. In essence, Harrington hinted that he’s not completely ruling out a return to the series.

As a fellow supporter, I can empathize with why some fans (and even my co-stars) might have felt upset by the spinoff announcement. Personally, I didn’t want to delve into that space because honestly, I viewed it as just show business – it’s an industry.

S.W.A.T. is streaming on CBS.
