Sabrina Carpenter Compares Meeting Paul McCartney to the Upside Down “But A Lot Happier Than ‘Stranger Things'”

As a long-time fan of Sabrina Carpenter, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy when she shared her heartwarming encounter with Paul McCartney. Meeting one of your idols is always an extraordinary experience, but to have it described as feeling like you’ve entered the “Upside Down” from Stranger Things? That’s a level of surrealness I can only dream of!

This year, I was fortunate enough to have an incredibly memorable encounter with Paul McCartney – a truly beautiful experience that I’ll always cherish!

The performer made a visit to The Late Show Starring Stephen Colbert to chat about her Grammy nominations and her Netflix Christmas special titled A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter. During her conversation with the late-night personality, she reminisced about her childhood years as an ardent fan of Paul McCartney, shared how he influenced her songwriting passion, and discussed the thrilling experience of meeting the iconic Beatle.

She shared with Stephen Colbert that meeting the rock legend made her tear up, and yet he was so ordinary, relaxed, and captivating. It felt as if I had stepped into another world, akin to the ‘Upside Down’ from Stranger Things, but this one was filled with much more joy than Stranger Things usually portrays.

She added, “He’s incredibly kind, and there’s one thing I always mention about him: when he enters any room, he makes everyone feel noticed and valued. It was a truly wonderful moment for me to witness this from someone I respected deeply. He’s exceptional, and yes, I must admit, I’m utterly smitten by him.

The “Espresso” singer shared that her affection for McCartney originated during her childhood, a period marked by her father playing the Beatles’ song, “Rocky Raccoon,” for her, for the very first time.

She confided that she was so captivated by the song and its composition that she developed feelings for Paul McCartney. She felt certain he was her future spouse. However, he was considerably older than she was, and at the time, she didn’t grasp his age difference because she was examining numerous photographs. To her, he seemed only about a decade older. She was struggling with math back then, being a child. So, as she grew up, it was not Paul McCartney’s age but rather his songwriting that won her heart.

The carpenter has been nominated for six Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album. On February 2, when she goes to music’s most prestigious event, it will be her debut at the Recording Academy’s award ceremony, and this is deliberate.

She informed the host that she had decided she wouldn’t go to the show unless she was nominated, but she never thought she would be honored in numerous categories during her initial year.

When you’re young, it’s more about going with the flow. It’s hard to put into words, but I think looking back in five years, I’ll be amazed at how much happened all at once. Right now, it’s hard to fully grasp it. But, the artist behind ‘Please Please Please’ said this, ‘I feel incredibly fortunate. All I’ve ever wanted to do is sing, and writing songs has always been my passion. So, having the chance to do both and have people listen means a lot to me. It’s sentimental, but it’s also a blessing, so I’m truly grateful.’

The carpenter concluded the initial stage of her Short n’ Sweet Tour in Los Angeles during November and will kick off the international part in March. At this moment, her Christmas special can be streamed on Netflix.
