Sabrina Carpenter Is Getting Her Own Netflix Holiday Special

As a seasoned cinephile with a soft spot for nostalgia and a penchant for all things musical, I must say I’m absolutely thrilled about Sabrina Carpenter‘s upcoming Netflix holiday special, “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter.

This upcoming holiday season, the popular pop artist Sabrina Carpenter is set to appear on Netflix! The streaming giant has announced a Christmas-themed special titled “A Funny Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter“, a spinoff of her hit song “Nonsense“, which will be available for streaming starting December 6. It’s important to note that Sabrina won’t be the only talent on display, as Netflix has hinted at other musical guests joining in the festivities.

The reason this is a Christmas special is straightforward. Last year, Carpenter released a holiday EP titled “fruitcake,” which features a unique rendition of her song “A Nonsense Christmas.” She will be performing this version for the Netflix event. In her statement to Netflix, the singer expressed that the holidays hold a significant place in her heart, making this project particularly exciting for her. As she put it to Netflix, “The holidays are special to me, and I’m thrilled about being part of this event.

For me, the holidays hold a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to put my own spin on a timeless holiday variety show, blending my passion for music and humor to create something truly one-of-a-kind.

The timing for this special is quite fitting, as she’s currently basking in widespread success after her album, “Short and Sweet,” was praised by multiple critics including The New York Times, Pitchfork, and others. Yet, the music isn’t the only thing you can expect from this show. According to Netflix, it will feature comedic guest appearances and unanticipated duets to add some extra pizzazz. For instance, Jenna Ortega makes a cameo in the music video for Carpenter’s “Taste.

Sabrina Carpenter’s show will have many surprises

Rather than being a streaming concert, this event transforms into a diverse entertainment spectacle that seems to resonate with a broader range of viewers. OBB Pictures, which is under the umbrella of Carpenter’s At Last Productions studio, is responsible for its production. According to Michael D. Ratner, CEO of OBB Pictures, such a show has long been an idea in Carpenter’s thoughts from the start.

From the beginning, Sabrina’s aim to revamp the traditional holiday special was evident,” noted Ratner. “At OBB, we collaborate with outstanding artists worldwide to reinvent the ordinary, and we are extremely pleased with our collective effort in realizing Sabrina’s vision on Netflix. Special recognition goes out to Simone Spira, the Volara team, Sam Wrench, Nikki Boella, and everyone else who contributed to this project.

Prior to making a name for herself in the music industry, Carpenter was popular among both adults and children due to her character as Maya Hart on Girl Meets World, a spin-off of the ’90s hit series Boy Meets World. In this show, she portrayed the best friend of Riley Matthews, who was the daughter of Cory and Topanga from the original program. While working on Girl Meets World, Carpenter also released music, but it wasn’t until her 2022 album Emails I Can’t Send that she gained widespread mainstream recognition.

Towards the end of 2023, Barry Keoghan, known for his roles in Saltburn films, started dating singer-songwriter Carpenter. They have preferred to keep their relationship under wraps and seldom appear together in public events, but they’ve attended some red carpet functions as a couple and acknowledged their relationship openly. Notably, Keoghan featured in Carpenter’s music video for her popular song “Please Please Please.
