Shariful Fakir, who stands accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence, has submitted an application for bail, arguing that the investigation is now concluded and all vital evidence has been collected by the police. His legal representative also claims that Fakir’s arrest was illegal. The court will examine Fakir’s bail request on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share this extraordinary tale – it’s about me, or at least someone who shares my fervor for Saif Ali Khan. On the 16th of January, in an unprecedented move, a fellow enthusiast named Fakir, hailing from Bangladesh, found himself in quite a predicament. He supposedly scaled the towering building that houses Saif’s residence on the 12th floor, unbeknownst to him, the very dwelling of his idol.
In an unexpected turn of events, Fakir, who was blissfully unaware of whose home he had invaded, reportedly barged into the house. In a twist that no Bollywood screenwriter could dream up, he then allegedly held the family at knifepoint and demanded money. Quite the rollercoaster ride for all involved!
A staff nurse at the residence claimed in a filed complaint that Fakir originally entered Jehangir’s bedroom, the son of Saif Ali Khan. However, she managed to stop him. The nurse alleged that Fakir then assaulted her, and when questioned, he asked for one crore rupees. Subsequently, when Khan woke up and attempted to intervene, according to the complaint, Fakir allegedly attacked him with a knife.
* Saif Ali Khan had an unexpected operation at Lilavati Hospital and left the hospital five days later. Incidentally, during this chaos, Fakir successfully fled, only to be apprehended again on January 19th.
* In an emergency situation, Saif Ali Khan went through surgery at Lilavati Hospital and stayed for a total of five days before being released. Amidst the confusion, Fakir slipped away but was eventually caught on January 19th.
In the process of requesting bail, Fakir’s legal team has stated that his arrest was unlawful as the police failed to supply him with a written explanation for his detention. They claimed it is essential to inform the suspect about the reasons for their apprehension before taking them into custody.
Moreover, the defense maintains that the accusations in the First Information Report (FIR) are entirely unfounded and concocted by the accuser. They further contend that Fakir did not carry out any crime as stated by the police. If we accept the testimonies at their surface value—without implying guilt—it would still not be sufficient to prove the essential components necessary for convicting robbery or dacoity with the intention of causing death or serious injury.
An additional reason for granting bail is that the entire investigation has been concluded in this case. The prosecution already possesses all crucial evidence, such as CCTV footage and call records, and there’s no risk of the defendant tampering with the evidence or intimidating witnesses, according to the bail application.
