Saif Ali Khan Attack: What led to accused’s arrest from Thane? 9 points that explain in detail the massive chase of Mumbai Police

As a lifestyle expert, I’m sharing an update on an important development: I recently apprehended Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the primary suspect linked to the incident involving Saif Ali Khan, during an operation in Thane on Sunday. This arrest occurred approximately 70 hours following the attack on the actor at his residence in Bandra.

In the course of this investigation, Mumbai Police have disclosed several significant insights about the detained individual. To provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the extensive manhunt and probe that culminated in Shehzad’s apprehension, I’ve compiled nine key points for your perusal. Let us delve deeper into the intricacies of this case.

Based on information from Indian Express and their report, Mumbai Police followed leads after examining CCTV footage at Bandra railway station. They eventually found the suspect outside Dadar station, where he had bought a phone case, paid in cash, and left. From there, he went to Kabutarkhana and later to Worli.

2. Later on, the police began examining video recordings from the Worli district, where the suspect had been spotted loitering around a specific stall close to Century Mill for a while. In the reviewed footage, he was observed talking to the stall owner not once but twice.

3. Crime Branch teams on duty managed to recognize the vendor as Naveen Ekka, who resides close to Koliwada. On Saturday, 7 police units conducted searches in the Worli-Koliwada district due to suspicions that Ekka was acquainted with the suspect. The ensuing investigation led them to his residence within a house of Jaihind Mitra Mandal in Janata Colony, where he was found cohabiting with 4 or 5 other workers.

4. Upon arrival at the scene, I found the house securely locked. In a panic, I reached out to the landlord, Rajnarajayan Prajapati. His son, Vinod, verified that Ekka was indeed their tenant but failed to recognize the suspect from the photo provided. However, he graciously handed over Ekka’s phone number to the police for further investigation.

5. The individual in question was traced, and it was discovered that they had paid for a paratha and a water bottle using UPI. Vinod disclosed to the media outlet that the authorities obtained the suspect’s phone number due to the digital transaction.

6. The phone number was crucial in the investigation as it guided the police to the labor camp in Kasarvadavali, Thane, and a contractor named Amit Pandey who had employed the suspect a few months prior. Approximately 20 teams converged at the location and commenced a search for the fugitive. Regrettably, he had already left the scene and switched off his mobile phone around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

7. The search for the suspect broadened to encompass the mangrove area adjacent to the camp, as it’s believed he had been concealed there. A police officer spotted him with their torchlight.

8. Just as the police were about to depart from the scene, they made a final check. Upon another look, a beam from one of their torches revealed someone slumbering on the ground. As an officer approached, this person woke up and fled. Eventually, they were apprehended and subdued, according to the sources cited in the publication.

9. The defendant confessed that seeing his pictures broadcasted on TV and YouTube caused him to panic. In response, he made his way to Thane, a location familiar to him since he had previously worked at a bar there.

After the arrest, DCP Zone 9 Dxit Gedam held a press conference and disclosed that the detained suspect is known as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad but had altered his identity to Vijas Das upon illegally entering India. The DCP also explained that the prime motive behind the suspect’s entry into Saif’s house was to commit a robbery.
