As a dedicated follower of Indian cinema with over three decades of immersive viewing and analysis under my belt, I must say that the upcoming docuseries “Angry Young Men: The Salim-Javed Story” has piqued my interest significantly. The legendary partnership between Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar is a cornerstone of Bollywood’s golden era, shaping some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema.

The Series “Angry Young Men: The Salim-Javed Saga” Unites Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar

During the unveiling of Angry Young Men: The Salim-Javed Story’s trailer, Farhan Akhtar spoke candidly about Kranti. Following his commendation of the movie, Salman Khan jokingly mentioned that Manoj Kumar is claiming the writing credit for the film, which was initially attributed to Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan.

In response to Khan stating that Mr. Manoj Kumar is claiming credit for the work of Salim-Javed by saying he wrote it, Farhan proposes creating a standalone documentary about Manoj Kumar’s contributions.

In response, Javed Akhtar made a sarcastic comment, saying, “I must commend him for his extreme honesty in admitting this.” Later on, Salman pointed out, “It’s true. He claims I would read and recite the lines to them. However, he was indeed the one who wrote it.”

In a 2-minute and 43-second trailer, we get an insight into the true-to-life stories of the renowned writing pair, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. The video commences with Tiger 3’s actor expressing feelings of unprecedented nervousness, which is followed by a series of testimonials from Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Javed Akhtar, Aamir Khan, Shatrughan Sinha, Hrithik Roshan, Shabana Azmi, Karan Johar, Jaya Bachchan, Yash, Amitabh Bachchan, and others, praising the legendary writers.

Following this, Zoya disclosed that the pair had collaborated on 24 movies, with an impressive 22 of them becoming box-office hits. Moreover, Salim expressed his desire for Hollywood to call him, stating “after seeing this, I wish they would reach out to me because we are in short supply of stars.” Conversely, Aamir Khan articulated their extraordinary talent, suggesting that people would flock to the cinemas solely due to their fame.

Moreover, Akhtar discussed his personal account when audiences found it surprising that authors were asking for proper credit. The upcoming documentary series intends to narrate the inspiring journey of these iconic writers as they worked on timeless films such as Don, Sholay, and Deewar, delving into the reasons behind their eventual separation.

On August 20, 2024, the story of Salim-Javed, known as Angry Young Men, will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
