Sam Wilson as Cap: The Unpopular Opinion You Need to Hear

For a long time, I’ve been anticipating this very instance, and now it has arrived – the point where I put all my cards on the table for Sam Wilson, as I wholeheartedly support him, my friend.

Sure thing!

To be honest, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Captain America: Brave New World for quite some time, ever since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. For years now, the upcoming Marvel movie list has taunted me with its release date, but finally, my wait is over – it’s here!

Absolutely, being a devoted Captain America fan for years, I felt compelled to rush to the cinema straightaway to witness its brilliance, disregarding the film’s critics’ views. However, my personal opinion about Sam Wilson may be an uncommon one that not everyone might concur with, but I’ll share it nonetheless.

I Still Love Steve Rogers As Captain America

Look, I love Steve. What’s not to love about Steve?

Growing up in New York and being severely bullied as a child, it resonated deeply with me when I saw a skinny kid from Brooklyn standing up for his convictions and persevering to transform into a potent superhero representing our nation.

For a decade, Steve Rogers embodied the character perfectly, a role that marked Chris Evans’ peak performance. This portrayal significantly rejuvenated his career following a series of commercial flops during his youth. His witty one-liners and stirring speeches have left an indelible impression on me, long after he hung up the Captain America shield in Avengers: Endgame.

As a die-hard Marvel fan, even if Captain America (Steve Rogers) miraculously reappeared in the MCU, my admiration for him would remain undiminished. However, this piece isn’t focusing on Steve; it’s all about his successor, Sam Wilson.

But I Think I’m Starting To Like Sam Wilson A Lot More

Yeah, I’m sorry, but I’m really starting to like Sam Wilson as Captain America a lot more.

Before you hurl tomatoes at me or brandish pitchforks towards me, I’d like to have your attention. Frankly speaking, I believe it’s easy to overlook the fact that Anthony Mackie’s character, Sam, has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2014 – over a decade now, starting with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Over this time, the character has demonstrated courage and resilience through numerous trials, making it understandable why Steve selected Sam.

However, it isn’t just because Sam portrays Captain America exceptionally well that I admire him so much. What truly resonates with me is his authenticity. Unlike Steve, who was tailored for a different era – the World War II generation – we could all identify with him, but he didn’t fully embody the essence of modern-day America.

Sam, nevertheless, shares this quality. Previously mentioned, he embodies the role of Captain America while being a Black man, which unfortunately marks him. Yet it is his additional traits that make him an ideal Cap. He’s sincere, intelligent, and vocal about the nation’s condition.

As a movie buff, I’d put it this way: I’m not afraid to hold back when needed, but stand my ground when my convictions call for it. After all, there was no one who fought for Isaiah Bradley until Sam stepped in, and now he lives freely, carrying his past demons along rather than being consumed by them.

A genuine hero shows their mettle by standing up for those who are defenseless – for the people who seem to be facing opposition from all sides. It’s a quality that truly warms my heart.

His Suit Feels More Realistic, And It Reminds Me Of Iron Man’s Devices

What I find particularly appealing about Sam is the equipment he uses. To set the record straight – while Steve as Captain America is undeniably impressive, he was essentially a highly skilled soldier with a Vibranium shield. Yes, he was swift and knew various stunts, but his gear wasn’t exactly flashy.

In contrast to the character of a Super Soldier, Sam is simply an ordinary individual who possesses an impressive collection of state-of-the-art equipment. This is evident in the storyline as he dons his Vibranium suit and wields his shield, among other advanced tools, as depicted in the narrative of Brave New World.

In much the same way, he resembles Iron Man, a character often overshadowed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seldom mentioned except by Peter Parker in the Spider-Man films. Sam shares similarities with Iron Man, but without the vast fortune. He’s an ordinary individual, taking on crime and sporting some impressive equipment, including a suit that is remarkably resistant to damage.

I have a fondness for characters who possess intelligence and can fully utilize their equipment without compromising their distinctly human physiques. Characters such as Iron Man and Daredevil, who are ordinary individuals with exceptional skills in weaponry usage, resonate strongly with me due to this unique blend of humanity and expertise.

The Stakes Are So Much Higher, Which Is Something I Like

It’s likely that many individuals share Sam’s opinion from the film about taking the Super Soldier serum. Although Sam expressed this sentiment grudgingly, I find myself at odds with him. Given the increased risks now, I believe it was the right choice to take the serum.

In most cases when powerful characters like Steve or Bucky get injured, our concern isn’t deep-seated because more often than not, they quickly recover without much fuss. So, the fear for their wellbeing rarely feels genuine due to their knack for bouncing back swiftly and strongly.

In this film, Sam isn’t like your typical superhero. There’s something refreshing about his normality, yet it’s precisely that vulnerability that draws me in so deeply. Yes, he has the suit, but even that armor can’t completely shield him from the harsh realities of life – as we witnessed with Rhodey’s ordeal during the events of “Civil War.” It’s this fragility that makes his character all the more relatable and endearing.

He is as much a creature as us, sharing the same components like bones, skin, blood, and many other aspects. This commonality lends credence to the apprehension we have towards him.

I Hope We Get More Sam Wilson Captain America Movies Because He Deserves Them

At the conclusion of “Captain America: Brave New World”, hints were given suggesting that Sam will likely reassemble the Avengers. Although two more Avengers films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6 have been announced, I am eagerly anticipating additional Captain America movies featuring Sam as the leader.

As a movie enthusiast, I must admit, it’s not easy to envision anyone other than Steve donning the Captain America suit. Change can be tough, even a bit painful. But history has shown us that pain often triggers change. I truly believe that Sam stepping into this role is exactly what our nation needs at this moment in time.

I’m unsure about the future developments of his character, but I fervently wish for it to receive the fair treatment it merits, and any upcoming movie starring Cap promises an engaging plot befitting Sam.

As a fervent admirer, I find this latest Marvel Cinematic Universe exhilarating – full of surprises yet promising thrills in equal measure. The suspense is killing me, as I eagerly anticipate the unfolding events. All that remains is the agonizing wait for the Thunderbolts movie, whereupon I’ll finally satiate my craving for more Bucky!
