Ever since Sanam Teri Kasam, the romantic film from 2016, was re-released in cinemas in February 2025, fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel. The movie, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, saw massive success upon its second release, nine years after its initial run. In an exclusive interview with Hindi Rush, co-director Vinay Sapru shed light on the potential cast for Sanam Teri Kasam 2, confirming that Mawra Hocane will not be part of the lead roles this time around.
Directors Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao engaged in a detailed discussion on the creation of Sanam Teri Kasam, its initial flop at the box office, subsequent re-release success, and upcoming sequel. When queried about the cast, Vinay stated that Mawra Hocane would not be involved this time around.
Recently, Harshavradhan Rane posted on his Instagram stories that he wouldn’t participate in the sequel if the original cast reunites. His statement seemed to be directed at Mawra, leading to a public exchange between the two.
Speaking of the disappointing release of STK in theaters back then, I was left feeling like I’d been let down by the studio. You see, they made grand promises about promotion, but as days turned into weeks, their team seemed to intentionally avoid me, ignoring my calls and messages. It was heartbreaking to witness the lack of effort put into marketing our film even when it held its ground at the box office for four consecutive days.
When I pleaded with the head of marketing to give us a chance, she callously dismissed our work, saying, “Make a better film next time and come back. Frankly, I had my assistants watch your film. Your film was just pathetic.” It’s hard not to feel demoralized when you pour your heart and soul into a project only to be met with such indifference.
Sapru revealed details about Sanam Teri Kasam 2 during a recent conversation, mentioning that he and Radhika had already conceived ideas for the sequel while producing the original film. Regrettably, the initial movie’s poor reception required them to delay the sequel. However, with the renewed interest in the franchise following its re-release, they are currently working on STK 2 once again.
