As a long-time fan who has witnessed Sandra Oh’s incredible journey from the sidelines, I must say that her career is nothing short of inspiring. From her days as Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy to her recent roles in Killing Eve and The Sympathizer, she has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with.

It’s safe to say that many enthusiasts of television and cinema would likely concur: Sandra Oh has had a truly remarkable acting journey thus far. Her stint on the blockbuster medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, catapulted her into stardom (slated for Season 21 in the 2024 TV lineup) and paved the way for various film roles and other television projects, such as Killing Eve and her HBO mini-series with Robert Downey Jr., titled The Sympathizer. Interestingly enough, Oh has been a dedicated actor for quite some time before her breakthrough on Grey’s Anatomy, and her response to being told she hasn’t changed since pre-Grey’s days is nothing short of exceptional.

Even if you’ve never watched Grey’s Anatomy before, first of all, shame on you, but second of all, you still likely know who Cristina Yang is. Sandra Oh made the driven and sarcastic surgical intern the perfect ally for Meredith Grey (though she admits working on the show was “traumatic”), and after a bit of a rough start, they quickly became the “twisted sisters” and each other’s “person,” endearing Cristina (and Oh) to millions of fans.

Recently, Oh appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her new movie, Can I Get a Witness, and part of the celebration included a showing of her first film, Double Happiness, which was originally released 30 years ago. Afterward, this prompted an interviewer from eTalkCTV to ask the Quiz Lady star, “Girl, how do you look the same?” and Oh’s A+ response is truly priceless. Take a look:

Wow, I just can’t get enough of her hearty laugh! And let me tell you, when she laughed so hard during the movie, she had to step back and lower herself to keep from falling over. What a hoot it was! After catching her breath, she exclaimed with humor, “Noooo! No,” before confessing that watching both her debut film and one she filmed in 2023 consecutively was quite the experience, describing it as “crazy.” But what I truly cherish is how she ended our conversation by saying:

I will say, I feel better now and I feel like I look better now.

Indeed, it’s wonderful to appreciate the benefits of experience, wisdom, and self-realization, isn’t it? Fortunately, it appears that the health issues associated with her role in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ are now behind her.
