As I reflect upon Sanjay Kapoor’s heartfelt reminiscing of his humble beginnings, it truly resonates with me as someone who has also navigated through life’s twists and turns. The image of a simple two-bedroom-hall apartment in Chembur, Mumbai, echoes the modest dwellings I’ve called home throughout my journey.
The renowned Kapoor family, which hails from the Hindi film industry, is known for producing stars such as Sonam Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, and others. While they are often perceived as a wealthy family, Sanjay Kapoor, in reminiscing about his past, has shared stories of their humble origins alongside brothers Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor.
Sanjay Kapoor recently had a chat on the YouTube channel Timeout With Ankit, where he talked about some cherished moments from his childhood. Kapoor explained that he and his brothers, Anil and Boney Kapoor, grew up in a modest two-bedroom flat in Chembur, Mumbai. Despite their success in Bollywood today, life wasn’t always glamorous for them. They led a straightforward family life, filled with love and happiness.
As a youngster, the actor who starred in Mission Mangal remembered that he and his sister, Reena Kapoor, used to share a bedroom. Later, when their grandmother passed away, their grandfather moved in with them. Unfortunately, this left no room for Kapoor. He explained, “Following my grandfather’s arrival, he claimed the room I had shared with Reena. Since our family was running low on space, we had to sleep in the living room on mattresses.
Simultaneously, they didn’t have the means to own multiple air conditioners for their residence. Instead, they sometimes shared a sleeping space with the air conditioner located in their parents’ room. Regardless of the difficulties, they managed to discover solutions that made their living environment more pleasant.
Sanjay Kapoor also acknowledged the hard work and sacrifices made by his parents in providing a comfortable life for their children. He shared an instance of their dedication, stating, “My parents didn’t set foot abroad until they had ensured all their children were settled overseas first.” It was always important to them that their kids enjoyed good food and clothing, and it was not uncommon for friends to eagerly anticipate meals at his house.
Sanjay Kapoor first appeared in Bollywood through the movie “Prem,” alongside Tabu Kapoor. Some of his memorable roles include those in “Raja,” “Merry Christmas,” “The Zoya Factor,” “Bloody Daddy,” among others. Most recently, he starred in “Murder Mubarak” together with Pankaj Tripathi, Karisma Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Varma, Dimple Kapadia, Tisca Chopra and other actors.
