Saoirse Ronan Shares Her Take On Possibly Joining A Marvel Movie After Addressing Black Widow Casting Rumors

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various virtual worlds, I can relate to Saoirse Ronan‘s unique perspective as an actress navigating the realm of big-budget films. While she may not see herself in Marvel movies, her desire for big projects that reach a wide audience is understandable.

Renowned actress Saoirse Ronan has captivated audiences with her exceptional performances in films such as “Little Women,” “Brooklyn,” and “Lady Bird.” Despite garnering recognition during awards season for these projects, they are considered smaller-scale productions compared to the blockbuster movie series like Marvel, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. On the podcast “Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz,” the host discussed the casting rumors about her potential role in Black Widow. During this conversation, Ronan seemed unsure about the rumors, laughing awkwardly when asked about it. When pressed about the possibility of joining a Marvel movie, she expressed her thoughts:

I don’t envision myself working on Marvel productions. Instead, my preference leans towards Bond projects.

It’s common knowledge among Marvel enthusiasts that Florence Pugh landed the role of Natasha Romanoff’s sister, Yelena Belova, in the Black Widow film. Yet, there were whispers suggesting that Saoirse Ronan initially declined the part, with Deadline journalist Justin Kroll hinting at the possibility that Marvel wasn’t Ronan’s preferred choice due to it not aligning with her tastes or interests.

It’s undeniable that starring in Marvel films can significantly boost one’s popularity. For instance, Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man and Tom Holland’s role as Spider-Man have greatly impacted their careers. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that every big-name actor would find success in the superhero genre.

Considering the situation, I could easily envision Saoirse Ronan gracing the screen in a James Bond film. Her ability to adapt and excel makes me hopeful for her taking on action roles similar to her performance as an assassin in the underappreciated film Hanna. However, don’t anticipate the actress from Atonement to yearn for the hero role, as she expressed a strong desire to play a villain reminiscent of Javier Bardem’s character. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this opportunity arises for her in the near future.

I have a strong desire to work on larger-scale films, given the current situation. Although I truly cherish creating independent movies, there’s something captivating about knowing that a film will reach a wide audience. After watching Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, I feel inspired and eager to take on similar projects. Of course, I wouldn’t mind doing so!

The BAFTA-nominated actress nearly made an appearance as a cameo in the film “Barbie,” but had to decline due to commitments for the lead and production of the drama film, “The Outrun.” Given Saoirse Ronan’s track record of leading roles, it won’t be long until she stars in another major film that will undoubtedly boost her fame even more.

As a gamer, I can say with conviction that even though Saoirse Ronan might not be drawn to Marvel films, her upcoming movies are bound to bring her unprecedented success among any Marvel actress before her. Coming soon to your Apple TV+ subscription on November 22nd is the Steve McQueen WWII-drama “Blitz,” and she’s also starring in the upcoming movie “Bad Apples” about a teacher grappling with a student causing disruptions. With or without a big-budget franchise, Saoirse Ronan clearly embodies the essence of a successful and accomplished actress in today’s time.
