As a seasoned gamer of the Hollywood scene, I find myself captivated by the latest move of Lloyd Braun, Noah Oppenheim, and Sarah Bremner, who are diving headfirst into the production world with their new banner, Prologue Entertainment. With their impressive resumes and diverse experiences – from ABC to NBC, screenwriting to producing, and talent agency leadership – they’ve managed to assemble a powerhouse team that’s poised to shake things up in Tinseltown.
What would be an appropriate move for a previous executive at ABC who now leads a talent agency, a former executive from the news division of NBC network who also writes screenplays, and a seasoned producer in films and television?
Lloyd Braun, Noah Oppenheim, and Sarah Bremner are joining forces to establish their own production company for funding and co-funding feature films and TV series with scripted content. This venture is made possible by Jeff Zucker’s substantial financial resources from RedBird Capital. In his statement on Thursday, Zucker said, “My investment strategy has always centered around collaborating with the best in the industry. Lloyd, Sarah, and Noah epitomize that, and they align perfectly with our expanding portfolio.
The threesome have finalized an agreement to officially present their production company, named Prologue Entertainment, as well as disclose a preliminary list of four ventures – three movies and one six-episode series – which they plan to promote.
Three of those titles have already found their places: “Zero Day,” a Netflix series starring Robert De Niro as a former president tasked with handling a devastating cyberattack, is jointly created and overseen by Oppenheim, Eric Newman, and New York Times journalist Michael S. Schmidt.
Moving forward, there’s Kathryn Bigelow’s yet-to-be-titled Netflix film, where the focus lies on White House officials grappling with an imminent missile strike (it seems a trend of stories inspired by real events in these titles). As for this movie, scripted by Oppenheim, it is currently in the post-production phase.
The opening scene is likewise attached to the production titled “The Root of All Evil“, developed at Atomic Monster and Blumhouse. This gripping suspense tale is inspired by the investigative reports of former New York Times correspondent, Ravi Somaiya, on an exorcism that took place in Mexico City. The adaptation for this feature film is being handled by Sean Tretta.
The shingle holds the rights to the 2024 Black List submission titled “Trapped,” which is represented by WME and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment, and is currently seeking a studio. This story’s logline goes as follows: A woman finds herself stuck in a narrow cave shaft and struggles to free herself when the shaft begins filling with water unexpectedly.
I, Sarah Bremner, am thrilled to embark on a new venture by launching my own production banner, following my tenure as president at Ava DuVernay’s Array Filmworks. Prior to this, I spent five fruitful years at Netflix’s film division, where I played a significant role in the development of remarkable projects like “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “The Two Popes,” and “Rebecca,” among others.
For Braun, this is his most recent transition following his departure as chairman of WME at the end of 2022. This executive, who became part of its parent company Endeavor in 2019, had earlier established Whalerock Industries, a digital media company that was previously known as BermanBraun. He also served as the chair of ABC Entertainment Television Group from 1999 to 2004, during which time he was recognized for giving the go-ahead to hit shows like “Lost” and “Grey’s Anatomy”.
Starting from now, Oppenheim moves on to a new phase in his career. He is renowned for penning the critically acclaimed film Jackie, along with collaborating on The Maze Runner and the Divergent Series: Allegiant. For five consecutive years, he served as president of NBC News group, navigating the division during the initial term of the Trump administration. In 2023, Oppenheim parted ways with NBCUniversal, securing a film and TV production contract with them instead.
In a combined announcement, Braun, Bremner, and Oppenheim expressed their excitement about teaming up with Jeff Zucker and RedBird for the debut of Prologue Entertainment. Their goal is to collaboratively produce captivating fictional films and television series, frequently deriving ideas from real-life personalities and incidents, thus ensuring projects that offer both enjoyment and thought-provoking content.
