Sarah Michelle Gellar Pays Tribute to Shannen Doherty: 'There Was So Much Love'

As a gamer and a longtime fan of both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Shannen Doherty, I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my dear friend Shannen. I’ve followed their careers since their early days on TV, and watching their friendship blossom over the years was truly inspiring.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, an actress, is deeply saddened by the demise of her friend Shannen Doherty after a long-term illness. For over three decades, they shared a bond, with Gellar describing Doherty as “the friend who was always game for any adventure, no matter how unconventional.” In heartfelt social media posts, Gellar paid tribute to her friend and invited fans to honor her memory by supporting animal charities. Doherty, aged 53, succumbed to cancer on Saturday following a prolonged battle. Her initial diagnosis was in 2015, and she went into remission two years later after undergoing intensive chemotherapy and several surgeries. However, the cancer returned, with her announcing its progression to stage 4 in February 2020, and subsequently revealing in June 2023 that it had spread to her brain.

On Monday, Gellar paid tribute to Doherty’s memory on Instagram and urged her followers to keep supporting animal charities, just as Doherty had been passionate about. Grunberg suggested The Life Animal Rescue in Westlake Village, California, as a meaningful charity for this cause.

Finding the appropriate words to encapsulate three decades of friendship can be quite a challenge. It’s hard because the pain is intense, but I’m reminded that the depth of our bond was fueled by an abundance of love. I appreciate your thoughtful comments and expressions of support. The outpouring of stories about how @theshando touched your lives is heartwarming. In her memory, let us celebrate her deep connection with animals, particularly dogs.

Let’s honor her memory by giving back to animal charities dear to us. This could be through monetary donations, volunteering at a local shelter providing love and walks to animals, or simply raising awareness by tagging them in comments. Knowing this would bring joy to her (and elicit that distinctive laugh we cherished).

In my last post, I expressed gratitude to each one of you for your heartfelt support and generous donations following my request. Trust me, we’re all touched by the outpouring of love and kindness. To give you a glimpse into our friendship, here are some recent videos I’ve recorded with Doherty – take a peek below!

Meanwhile, Sarah Gellar gained recognition as the main character in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” leading to their strong friendship during that period.
